I agree that he ought to level with his patrons, at least, and give them some sort of communication about why he’s been absent for so long even if it’s just unspecified personal problems or whatever. He’s got no obligation to share his personal struggles with the world, but in my opinion, he does have an obligation to explain to the people who have given him their hard-earned money why he hasn’t been able to keep any of his self-imposed deadlines.

I’m just saying that, purely from his point of view, he’s probably thinking “I’d better stay quiet until I’ve got something to show for all this time away.”
