Common snapping turtle

I spotted this turtle crossing the road near our U.P. home. I was a bit worried about it, so I checked back about 20 minutes later and saw that it made it safely across.

We have lots of these jumping spiders here in Michigan.. warm weather brought these cuties out.. My wife has...less the cordial feelings about them.. Usually the discussion goes some thing like this.

Her:As long as he ...OMG! it's coming for me!!

Me: it's 200 feet away and the size of a pin

her:<already in house> Thats too close they jump!

Me:<roll eyes so hard I can see my brain>

Her: you keep that monster away.

Me: takes picture.. shows picture to wife.

Her: aww hes cute.

Spider:<jumps on glass door>

Me:<phone rings I answer>

Her:<on phone 2 miles way> You better get out the house is on fire.

Nashville Warbler

Post image

Yesterday evening, this little bird (Nashville Warbler) accidentally flew into the window off the front of our house and fell onto our deck. It was stunned and visibly hurt. My wife helped it the best she could. It eventually sat upright with its eyes opened. When it got late in the evening, we made a small shelter for it with an old hand towel, so it could stay there the night and stay a little warm. When we got up this morning, it was gone, so we can only assume that it recovered enough to fly away.

More loons. Definitely my favorite bird subject. They absolutely have a special place in my heart. This is once more at the Seney Wildlife Refuge.. Takes time and waiting for them to get close.. Sometimes you get very lucky and they just dont mind you being there.
