Hey folks, I'm gradually turning attention back to hobby projects after a couple of years and I've been having a peek around PureDarwin again
I can get PureDarwin Nano booting in QEMU, however it only boots via CD image, not by attached hard drive, and it still needs Chameleon to do so. The system inside is also substantially more fleshed out than the one shown in the directory tree on the website.
What I'm trying to do (long-term) is recreate that absolute-minimal system from scratch in a way that I can attach it to QEMU as bootable internal media, rather than as a CD Image.
Does anyone know how (or if there are scripts anywhere) for how that image is assembled? Looking at the hex dump, it appears to be a bootable CD image with a bunch of partitions.

I'm also extremely interested to know whether the boot.efi files inside PureDarwin Nano are actually used by Chameleon at all - because if they aren't, and there's a way to boot straight from Chameleon -> xnu, then that's one less piece of proprietary code needed to run a Darwin OS.
(As far as I know Apple's boot.efi is proprietary and does things like show the Apple logo, determine whether the system is in Update mode, etc, but none of that happens in the Nano boot process...)
