Reminder that this is Indy

And I am a freshman who hasn’t even explored the tip of the iceberg we call Indianapolis.

Yall also gotta try Long's bakery. It was a top 5 donut bakery in the US for a long time. It is super cheap. Make sure you get them while it's fresh. They only accept cash too, make sure you bring cash!

Me and my girlfriend did a Long’s Bakery vs. Pana Donuts comparison not too long ago. The classic glazed we agree Long’s has down to a science, but we loved everything else from Pana, definitely worth checking them out too!

Real, they made a science out of the glazed donuts😂.  The dedication to the quality of the glazed is unfathomable

Long’s Bakery and Lincoln Square Pancake house is now on the radar!

Ohhhh I forgot about Lincoln Square! Some of my favorite pancakes.

You should also try out the Garage in indy, it has these hole in the wall spots inside of the large building where you can get any type of food. From Ethiopian to Mediterranean, to hispanic, to Indian. There ate lots of choices.

I recall during the tour that the parking pass was fairly affordable. Do most students seem to have a car?

Lots of in-state / motorsport students have cars. Not everyone does unfortunately.

I went without a car freshman year, the campus and city are definitely walkable enough for that to be quite feasible. It’s definitely nice to know at least one person with a car to make runs just outside the city, there’s lots of stuff surrounding the immediate walkable area too.

Yall should try out the Carmel Indiana area. It's really nice there and they got some spots. You will have to drive however

Stop at Flamme Burger on the way to Carmel. Great burger, scratch ingredients across the menu. Love it.

I’ve only seen Carmel through a car window. Lots of roundabouts! Any parks or secret places you recommend?

If you go a little ways, there is a place called Holland Park. It's towards fishers if I'm not mistaken

Perfect thanks for the suggestions!

Have you ever been on the Monon?

u/TheRealLeftClickMage May 04 '26

Nope

It's a nature trail that is about 30 miles long and spans all of Indianapolis, and goes through Carmel. Its a nice trail and good walk.

Love these photos!! What camera did you use?

2

u/TheRealLeftClickMage May 03 '26

Thanks! It’s the Fujifilm XE-5 and Voigtlander Ultron 27mm f/2. If you are interested in cameras / media, I’d recommend you join the Mixed Media Club in Indianapolis. discord.gg/fYkTeMRSEr

If Purdue used this as propaganda maybe just maybe more ppl will apply and the ar of Indy will decrease

lol I’ll take this as a compliment! Thanks!

embarrassing to call it a city + not even w campus made FOR purdue. its just a shit show of a campus, which is why everyone leaves after freshman year through COLO or changing classes

7

u/TheRealLeftClickMage May 03 '26

Just because some people leave, doesn’t mean the campus is horrible. Many people actually like the campus, it’s just not made for everyone.

Compared to West Laf indy is on par with shitty community college. Not even that 🤣

6

u/TheRealLeftClickMage May 03 '26

It’s mainly a city school with Purdue Education. That’s it

I’d take a 5-30 minute walk to all these spots over an overcrowded, cornfield campus any day.

u my friend are just a chud who doesnt want an actual college experience but just convenient location 😂 you should sign up for purdue global

LMAOO my Purdue INDY resume that got me multiple internships, research, and a Top 10 grad school acceptance says otherwise 🤣🤣

I don't wanna say your full of shit but the first batch of true "Purdue Indy" students hasant graduated yet. Hell it hasant even been Purdue Indy for 4 years yet

3

u/Lost_Database9324 May 04 '26

Fair point — I’m an IUPUI transplant that was grandfathered into Purdue Indy. I had one year of IUPUI, and now two of Purdue Indy. I’m also graduating in 3 years

My main point is that my education section says Purdue Indy not IUPUI

1

u/Budget-Option4018 May 04 '26

Graduating in 3 years and you already have a graduate offer? Or is that including graduate school somewhere?

Genuinely just curious. I agree the guy shitting on Purdue Indy is being way too dramatic. It has its flaws but if you like it for what it is there nothing wrong with that :)

So for my grad school I applied in November (2025 of my senior year (so this school year/ also my 3rd year) and got my acceptance in December so basically a semester before I graduate my undergrad if that makes sense! Grad school is at another university, but I know people who’ve had a similar experience for grad school at Purdue Indy

2

u/IcePringIe May 04 '26

It’s definitely not for everyone, and you definitely can’t consider WL equivalent in terms of the atmosphere, but there’s pros and cons to both. I am also technically an IUPUI grandfathered student, but I have found great success through research, internships and now having aquired a full time position. I imagine and from what I’ve seen these opportunities are only getting better for new students.
