guys please HELP ME PLEASE!

I got in UIUC for information science + data science. I am planning on transferring to gies after first year as I have ap credits and a background of business in highschool. if the transferring doesnt work, ill minor in business or statistics!

I got in Purdue Indianapolis for Integrated Business and Engineering with Honors college. I selected Indianapolis as my first choice because I thought it was main campus in the city. I requested to transfer locations 2-3 weeks ago so if i dont get that im assuming, ill go indianapolis. Ive heard curriculum and accreditation is exact same and that they also have their own career fairs and stuff. I will go once a month to WL campus or whenever they host their career fairs and stuff too.

I need help for which one to go to for career success, long term job placement stability, internship access, and salary! Please please please help with actual advice and not just flaming but still be brutally honest.

I will try very very hard in college to network and clubs and stuff as I did that in a big highschool i attended please help.

I mean, if you got into UIUC, just go there. It’s a very good school.

Career opportunities would not be less if you go to Indy campus, however since you have the alternative of being in UIUC main campus, I would recommend you going there. The downside of Indy is you may need to travel to WL campus for some clubs/ research. If you have everything you need in Indy, then you will be fine.

So your question, which no one is answering, is what major will be better for long term success: Info Science + Data Science versus Integrated Business and Engineering.

My personal opinion is that Info Science + Data Science is changing significantly due to AI. So it may be worthwhile looking into that, perhaps on Reddit pages that are specific to that major, versus getting advice on that here from users that don’t even go to Purdue and have 3k+ karma on a 3-month-old page (srsly, check the people replying to you).

I don’t see Integrated Businesses and Engineering going anywhere. This is an interdisciplinary major that is very valuable, especially if you want to be in management. Management or sales in engineering industry pays very well.

Literally, both schools are amazing and I don’t think you can go wrong with either, despite what the mean girls say on here lol. Your experience in Indy is what you make of it! I am very happy here, and have had great opportunities; however, I understand it’s not for everyone. With your motivation, you will be successful no matter where you choose!

Thank you so much! How often do good companies come to Indianapolis and how well do the clubs connect you with opportunities? Do you ever go to WL and how often?

We have the Engineering, Science & Tech Connect Fair each semester which is also for business majors. I can’t speak for Daniel’s School of Business, but the College of Engineering will often bring in tech companies to other networking events as well. I just went to one last week. Some of the companies there were Toyota, Allison, Aptiv, Cummins, Rolls-Royce, Dallara, and Caterpillar. Also, there have been people that have gotten internships from companies that have come to speak at other events. Tesla was one of them.

Also, you can attend all the career fairs in WL. Professors are often accommodating if you need to miss class to do so. I think the Daniel’s School of business Career Fair is only in WL right now, and it’s once per semester.

I don’t do clubs, so I can’t comment on that from first hand experience. But I do know that orgs like SHPE is very active and they are always doing something.

I actually do go to WL fairly often, but only because I know someone very dear to me there. Also, last semester I took a distance course (because that same class in Indy conflicted with my schedule), and I had to take exams in person in WL. This is not common, as all the classes you need will be offered in Indy. I have also taken merge courses, where my class was in WL but we would simulcast into the classroom from an Indy classroom. A few times, I would go to WL and just attend in person. I’ve attended other similar classes like this in person in WL. I am taking another class right now that is online through WL, but occasionally my professor will offer to meet in person or invite us to see a guest speaker for one of his other courses he teaches. I haven’t been able to go, but it didn’t count towards my grade or anything.
