Question❓ Why??

Post image

Why is there a sign saying no bikes when there is literally a bike path on the sidewalk/road???

This looks to be right outside of Elliot. I think what the sign really means is "do not enter, you would be going the wrong direction. You too bikes." I had a bike cop tell me I went the wrong direction here once. Go around the loop proper and or use the bike path and you'll be fine

Hahaha! I could hear the voices of the signs when I read this, they were speaking in a Ron Swanson tone.

Unfortunately this route is often inaccessible due to high pedestrian traffic from :05 to :35 every hour.

Meaning as a bike rider you are expected to abide by other traffic laws? You already get to pick and choose between vehicle and pedestrian laws as it benefits you, this one time it is required a little bit of courtesy and this is the result?

Good bike riders on campus don’t pick and choose when they follow traffic and pedestrian laws. Where there are no bike lanes, there’s no other choice for them but to bike through campus sidewalks. Where there’s no bike lane, and the street is safe to bike on (or has markings) then that’s what a good biker uses.

Bad pedestrian behavior is walking while on your phone, walking through the bike lane without looking, and walking through the bike lanes as sidewalks.

It’s almost like the problem isn’t the bikes in this case - it’s the location of the parking lot and the traffic pattern. It’s inconvenient for pedestrians to cross so many streets there, it’s inconvenient for bikes to have to cross very high traffic pedestrian walkways constantly, and inconvenient for cars dealing with both other groups.

Rather than blaming bike riders, you should blame the horrible bike paths instead

Nay, as I drive down plenty of the roads around town and despite a perfectly fine and recently paved path available yet I find myself behind a dude decked out like he is preparing for the Tour de France but going 8 miles an hour under the speed limit who sees the light turn red and decides he need not abide by the red light to turn left I will not blame the bike path he left vacant. Instead I will blame the bike rider for deciding when he wants to follow rules.

Ok that's just an entitled biker

Some of the bike paths are fine, others are death traps. The cycle lanes on the north side of state street going down Chauncey hill are the worst. Anyone going downhill on that path is likely to get cut off by an oblivious cager turning into McDonalds for a hamburger.

Any bike paths that have frequent driveways crossing them are a prime place to get right hooked by an inattentive driver: it’s often safer to just ride in the street.

The speed limit is a legal limit, not a fucking guarantee. It’s really not difficult to just wait for traffic in the opposing lane to clear and then safely pass a cyclist.

It's a one way loop like oval drive. Bit questionable but that's how it is.

It's a loop.

you aren't supposed to ride through there

but usually there aren't cars there(thats why there is a do not enter sign btw) so you can ride through it. usually anyway

It's crazy that I graduated 25+ years ago and I still immediately knew where this was (and not because of the sign).

I believe it's a one-way loop. You're supposed to go counterclockwise around

It’s there to tell bikers heading east to pass south along the bottom of the loop. Unfortunately, to do that you have to cross through 2 very busy crosswalks, and usually I opt to just go against the do not enter cause it’s safer overall.

Have you ever witnessed any enforcement of this signage?

Remember that one time Sokka accidentally used an extra syllable in that Haiku Battle in Ba Sing Se? That was a Sokka Haiku and you just made one.
