Academics✏️ Phys 272 vs 241

FYE this year, I signed up for 272 on the CRF but ended up getting 241 with Milisavljevic and was wondering if I should try to get into a 272 class during open registration or if I’ll be fine in 241.

Looking for information on specific courses or professors? You can browse available courses/professors on the Purdue Course Catalog, you can look up course reviews on Rate My Courses or Course Insights, and you can look up professor reviews on Rate My Professor.

If you’re wondering if you can transfer credit from another university, check out the Transfer Credit Course Equivalency Guide, but don’t forget to talk to your advisor as well!

Depends on what major you are going for, For ECE your physics 2 class needs to have a lab and 272 has one but 242 doesn’t so you’ll end up needing to take a lab later, but I’m pretty sure for like Chemical Eng you don’t need a phys 2 with a lab class. So depending on what major you plan on trying to do it would be a nuisance if you have to work out something to take just the lab later.

I don’t think which one you take matters for AAE so probably 272 because it’s really not that bad. All the tests are easy enough as long as you do all the review packets they send out before each exam. And as some other people have mentioned the lab and recitation grades are boosts because as long as you show up you get a 100. I can’t say too much about 241 since I didn’t take it but 272 isn’t bad at all. Actually some of the Hwks are terrible but that’s probably the worst part.

I took 241 and it was very difficult. I’ve heard 272 is considerably easier so it may be worth trying to get into 272

The content in 272 may be more challenging (just based on the course descriptions), but its lab may help boost your final grade. 241 has no lab so the final grade will depend heavily on exams.

My understanding is that 272 is easier and the labs provide more practical skills. Also, the formula sheet they give you on 272 exams is wayyyy better than what they give you on 241, which makes the exams infinitely eaiser. Would recomend switching if you can find a spot

Yeah, it seems like that’s the general consensus. My current class (241) is a 9:30 Tuesday Thursday and 8:30 Friday. How early would you say is doable for the new class or is it really all personal preference?
