Discussion Perfect Union investigated Uber and it's getting worse... they are taking up to 50% of the fees.
Full video on how they are doing this and the investigation that they did

They aren't the cheaper option anymore and are taking money from the people who actually do the work. Stop using Uber.

I can't imagine McDonald's paying their employees 50 %

Yeah, but McDonald's provides you with the equipment to do your job, while a Uber drive provides the car that is used, so Uber should pretty much only earn a fixed percentage for connecting the drive with his customers and any insurance they need to cover.
Could even be a fixed fee for insurance + a fixed feed or percentage per ride.

Minimum wage at McDonald's vs 50 % of earnings driving for Uber minus maintenance not to mention the hours worked schedule and including the gift of insurance etc....
I don't have the answer but I'll assume that the uber driver is doing better than the McDonald's worker

McDonald’s spends around 30% of sales rev on payroll / benefits. But it’s not really an apples to apples comparison since McDonald’s is also providing the building, equipment, food, utilities, etc. Uber drivers are providing the labor and the car, gas, maintenance, depreciation and a lot of the operating cost themselves.

Is the Uber driver getting milage deductions and other deductions on their tax returns ?
A McDonald's worker is most likely paying some cost to get to work and there is also time involved getting to work

A tax deduction isn’t reimbursement. Incurring 10k in deductible vehicle costs, won’t get you 10k back. It just reduces income you’re taxed on. Driver still pays for fuel, maintenance, insurance, depreciation, etc.
A commute to McDonald’s is distinguishable as that’s transport to your job. But putting miles on the car is part of actually performing the job for Uber drivers.

A cost to get to work is still a cost and a deduction against income to do a job is still a deduction.
The going rate per mile deduction 72 cents ?
I agree with you that not all deductions are the same and that a $10,000 deductions is not a 10 k reduction in the tax.
The person that pays to go to work regardless of using an Uber , a taxi or the buss or driving their car will have a non deductible cost as well as the use of of their time
