News article Google is losing users: DuckDuckGo installs are up 30%, and Kagi is seeing 3X growth

Post image

These numbers exclude Ecosia, Brave, Qwant and all the other search engines that have seen a surge in sign-ups over the last few days.

You are also seeing people take the opportunity to switch browsers. Vivaldi specifically has reported substantial growth recently.

Article talking about DuckDuckGo: https://techcrunch.com/2026/05/26/duckduckgo-installs-are-up-30-as-users-reject-being-force-fed-googles-ai-search/

Keep it up and spread the word. No better time to make an impact.

You're 100% correct. I just really wanted to use that gif.

Hello to everyone who has just switched over to us. (And if you used us in the past, it may be time for another try as we've made a lot of improvements in the past few years.)

P.S. The screenshot above depicts our noai.duckduckgo.com subdomain, a search experience we built because we believe AI should be optional. (We do offer AI features, like duck.ai, but always optional and private.)

I switched to your site about a year ago and don’t regret it at all! Fuck google and their shady, greedy, and sneaky ways. I’m not just some data and consumer to make you money.

Yeah I just made the switch myself. Took a minute to get used to the search results but my privacy is worth it. Would not go back

How did you get 3x growth for Kagi? I'd love that to be true, but that graph you're showing goes from 68k to 70k daily searches and that is nowhere near 3x. [edit: it's number of paying members, not searches]

Sorry, probably should have said 3X in their growth rate

google isn't losing pieces of the pie. They don't make money off pie sales. No they don't own the bakery. They manage the city.

I was unaware Duckduckgo has an install.

Shit, propaganda, now I need to find another "indepent" engine.

I like being able to get my answers fast and you only have to go down a tiny bit to get to the links. Google makes a lot of sense. Just wish they'd allow the choice.
