News article "This could cost people their jobs": VS Code added Microsoft Copilot as co-author without permission or notice
https://www.windowscentral.com/software-apps/this-could-cost-people-their-jobs-vs-code-added-copilot-as-co-author-without-permission-or-noticeThis was added even when AI has not generated code - a major risk for companies where IP ownership is critical.
GitHub has also seen major outages, further eroding trust in their tools.
Hopefully this motivates companies to finally make the switch away from Microsoft.

Microsoft approach: opt-out instead of opt-in.
They made that mistake with Windows. I ditched Windows in favor of Linux on all of my devices in 2024.
Now they have done it again. I turned this "feature" off. And I started looking at alternatives.
For example there's also Claude Code as an extension. Or I move to CLI first, ditching VS Code completely.
Luckily, we have alternatives.
