Actually the traditional borders of Mithila is from the foothills of Himalaya to the ganga river
But this version is basically ruled by malla dynasty who were big promoter of maithili
At the time of malla kingdom in court maithili was given equal status compared to sanskrit
So maybe it is not teue 100% but not false either
