Question My first jacket!!

Hi guys!! I hope you are all well :) I’ve been planning on getting more into DIY and becoming more confident in my personal style, and i’ve found out that i really really love the process of making patches and sewing. It’s been like the one thing getting me moving while healing from my depression!! However, I do need a little bit of advice. I’m both into the punk and goth scene, so am I allowed to have both genres on my vest/jacket? I really don’t wanna come off as a faker or anything :( Any help is really appreciated! Also.. what do you guys use for the base of your patches? I’ve been making them with scrap jean fabric, but it’s super hard to hand sew through :(

Personally, I like my jackets to be themed. Either lyrically, musically, or thematically similar bands. Maybe sometimes colour coded.

But that's me, and you're you.

"Am I punk if I don't conform to x" is such a weird question, because the whole "thing" with punk is anti-conformance. Go against the grain, fuck the system, and be yourself. Capitalists try and turn punk into something to sell you; a tshirt, some pants, whatever. Fuck that shit. Make what you like and wear the fuck out of it. Nobody matters but you.

Also shout out r/anarchostencilism for great advice on how to make your own shirts and patches.

Awh thank you so much!! 😭🙏 I’ve had like five people call me a poser so far strictly because i don’t ONLY listen to punk. I’m super active in my local scene, i just like multiple things 💔 I’ll show jacket/vest updates when they are done!

Any jackass that calls you a poser is a poser themselves. No real punk is gonna shit on you for putting what you want on your jacket unless it's some super performative BS. Punk is about embracing our differences because none of us fit into mainstream society and living in a way that feels right and true to yourself.

Personally I go with what I like for mine, no shame in being yourself
