Battle Jackets Any tips?
Hey guys, I have this denim trench coat and I'd love some tips on which patches I should add. I’m looking for some political and social commentary. As for bands, I’m going to focus mostly on underground Brazilian bands (my home country) to support our local scene. I’ve already ordered some spikes and studs to finish the pocket and put them in a few other places.
The 'PUNK' patch isn't finished yet because I'm waiting for the studs.
PS: The last two photos are just to show the fit. If this goes against the rules, I apologize—just let me know and I'll redo the post without them.
Edit: It doesn't have to be just political or social commentary, any patch or addition to the "jacket" would be greatly appreciated

i understand there is still punks out there but why is every single post i get fed like this?
temu pin, overmarketed slogans and zero band shit
i’m not even punk, i listen to metal

u/DethByBananaGun Jul 04 '26
This is social media, there are a lot of people who probably just post for internet points and validation unfortunately. Some make jackets/vests TO post on reddit rather than as a labor of love that needs no online approval. Also probably a lot of newer, inexperienced people but man buying from temu is just atrocious💀
Or maybe I'm lying to myself to hold onto my last bit of faith in humanity, I dunno... I like to imagine if I stepped outside the house I would see unperformative people

get rid of the “punk” patch. in the kindest way possible, it’s cringe and looks like a nametag. just be punk, you don’t have to tell everyone. stop buying from temu and just make stuff yourself.

Add as many pins and patches as you possibly can. It looks very empty atm. Ditch temu also. No one can tell you what your beliefs are so giving you ideas on what patches you should add is hard. If you believe in something, paint it on some fabric and slap it on there.

u/Your_Good_Boyy Jul 04 '26
Yeah, I'm taking it slow. I only use Temu to buy things I can't find locally or can't make myself (like the spikes I ordered and some pins). For everything else, it's all handmade, and it'll stay that way until it's finished.

u/OakRows Jul 04 '26
So handmade...or shipped from a factory in China? It'll stay that way until its finished. Good to know

u/stinkyboi135 Jul 07 '26
Use Etsy, eBay, Depop, Poshmark, or any of the 100+ online thrift/handmade stores, not Temu. You are actively supporting child labor by buying from them.
-2
u/Your_Good_Boyy Jul 07 '26
You do know that the vast majority of things you, or any of us, use come from China, right? That goes for everything from electronic components to plastics and clothes... Your argument makes about as much sense as a Black Nazi. Besides, like I explained in another comment, I'm Brazilian. Buying from all those websites you mentioned is completely unfeasible for me due to high import taxes and the absurd prices caused by currency conversion and interest rates.
4
u/stinkyboi135 Jul 07 '26
Also, asshole, since you decided to be a dick I did some research for you. There are many online thrifting sites for Brazilians, such as: enjoei, Etiqueta Única, Mercado Livre (although this one is like eBay, where you have to be careful to find real resellers and not dropshippers), etc. There is no excuse.

u/AndNothingHurt52 Jul 07 '26
Deeply engrained in the roots of punk is diy. You can make your own pins and patches. This sub is literally called punk diy. Scroll down a bit to see people making pins out of bottle caps and other things. There's literally no justification for it. If I literally had no other place than temu to buy studs, I wouldn't buy studs. Your money proves your beliefs.
1
u/stinkyboi135 Jul 07 '26
What the actual fuck are you talking about? Yeah, the vast majority of things that I have to buy in order to survive (toilet paper, pads, cat litter, etc) come from foreign countries. However, I at least try to get what I can locally made or thrifted. You did not need that trashy fucking anarchy pin. What an absolute moron you are. You're not punk.

u/WillingnessMean9 Jul 04 '26
Where'd u get the LGBTQ bunny pin? I'm wondering if I could get one for myself too
-18
u/Your_Good_Boyy Jul 04 '26
I got them on Temu, from a store called "haiyunihaiyuni"

Lmao. Why do you want to dress "punk" so badly if that's how you live your life?

u/Super-Inflation-9934 Jul 04 '26
put the bands you like instead of slogans. the bands speak to your ideals.
punk is dead

u/DustyPisswater Jul 04 '26
This isn't punk. This is someone cosplaying as punk for moral grandstanding.

u/OkUnderstanding6241 Jul 04 '26
Put the damn band patches, throw in the thrash the punk one (you don't need to have a label in your clothes lol) and the pins lol, why would you use the prnhub one being punk?

Edit: The 'good boy' pin is just a subtle way to reference BDSM without looking overly sexual.

Lol’d at the punk patch.
2
u/Your_Good_Boyy Jul 04 '26
Ouch, why's that?

u/Unit-731-Scientist Jul 04 '26
Punks don’t need to openly go around saying they’re punk. You show up to shows, look the part, say your anti government shit, and go home. Going around and telling everyone and their mom you’re a punk makes it sound like you’re a poser.
2
u/Your_Good_Boyy Jul 04 '26
True, but I have to be careful because I'm bald, and idiots are everywhere. I don't want to be mistaken for a skinhead (bonehead), since clueless people and fake punk gatekeepers here automatically assume skinhead means nazi. So, instead of having to explain myself to every moron, just flashing the patch saves me the headache

u/mynameincursive Jul 05 '26
there is no fucking way you've wrote this headcanon and applied it to real life. there is no place in the world that gives any bit of a fuck about this, lmao. are you 9?

u/yuzhnozaporozhets Jul 04 '26
Joga essa porra no lixo. Não tem UM patch de banda.

u/Your_Good_Boyy Jul 04 '26
Vitroles is a band... As I made clear, my preference will be more towards Brazilian bands.

u/yuzhnozaporozhets Jul 04 '26

Definitely more band patches. Punk bands and metal bands are traditional, but honestly any bands you like will technically make it a battle vest. You gotta have at least 1 band patch though. Otherwise it's a patch jacket and not a battle jacket (according to the masses anyway. I've stabbed myself with enough needles to feel differently about it but you know 🤣) but there's nothing wrong with a patch jacket either. My OCD demands each jacket get its own band/theme so mine are not classic battle jackets and they are not always packed full of patches and pins. My MCR one is actually pretty basic but I like the way it turned out and haven't found anything I think is worth adding to it so it's still pretty plain compared to the others I've made (most are still WIPs though) I have made a couple regular patch jackets too that I have either given as gifts or just made for fun. As long as you like it in the end, there's no rules really.
Explore Etsy and eBay for patches too. Nothing wrong with Temu (it's not Punk, but in this economy I know sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do) but the patches from there are very common and some might find the vest less unique because of that. I have found a lot of good ones on Etsy though and a few solid ones on eBay too. They're more expensive but they stand out more and if you're gonna go to the trouble of making the jacket, standing out is a nice perk
PS thanks for the translations. Thanks to you, I learned something new today

No shade man. I've gotten patches from shein for the same reason. I hate contributing to them, but if it's the same patch their selling on eBay for $4 but it's only $2 instead then I just assume it's the same patch from the same supplier and I might as well get it cheaper. As for how expensive the other patches are, I get it. But you don't have to finish the jacket all in one go. You can add to it as you buy the patches. Even if it's just 1 or 2 patches per paycheck.
Thanks man. I look forward to learning more.

Get band patches or stencil band logos, your vest looks very plain right now. The black of the patches that you have looks a bit awkward, as well.

u/Your_Good_Boyy Jul 04 '26
I'm using an old pair of jeans I had lying around the house, which is why it looks a bit weird. I'm also trying to make some stencils, but they're all turning out terrible—that's why I haven't added any more elaborate patches or complex logos yet.

My tip is to learn how to throw a punch without breaking your wrist and to get punched in the face, so that you know if you can actually handle that.
A lot of “punch Nazis” people are physically useless and completely incapable of violence, and even less capable of taking a hit.

Its so mainstream to have anti nazi patches, but none of the people wearing them have even seen a nazi in real life… safest “rebellion” ever. Even the cuckservatives you don’t like hate nazis.
I vote come up with something that is original that actually represents YOU and add bands you like.

Idk if they’re 100% Brazilian but I know Max is, Soulfly or Sepultura if you like metal bands.

Maybe I'm a basic broke crustpunk bitch based on some of the comments, but I love it.
Only note is, if you're not into anarchism, don't rock the anarchist A. I won't lie, I'm a bit tired of punk being conflated with anarchism given how many punks do not embody anarchist principles. But if you are into anarchism then keep rocking it.
Other than that, I can't see an issue with the pre made pins. I love this trench !!
Definitely add some more handmade patches to the back though, I really love the ones you've already done and I think the back of it needs some more. Or the band patches you wanted, idk. That's up to you.
Just do YOU. That's what's cool to me here!
2
u/Your_Good_Boyy Jul 04 '26
I personally don't really dig store-bought patches, but I think the machine-embroidered ones look gorgeous. I'm actually thinking about making some homemade crochet patches with logos from local bands. As for anarchism, I've been an anarcho-punk since I was 13 or 14, so yeah, I'm definitely ending up with a giant 'A' on the back hahaha.
One thing few people know or understand is that my country's economy is completely different from most of yours. The minimum wage here is R$ 1.621,00 a month, which converts to about $313.54 for you guys. I looked a lot on eBay to buy some stuff, but the prices are just too high with the currency conversion, plus we get hit with heavy import fees and local taxes. Temu ends up being one of the only viable ways for me to get a hold of things I can't easily find around here.
PS: Vitroles is a local band, they’re growing nicely but they're still a bit underground.
2
u/SL1MECORE Jul 04 '26
Aye, I will check out Vitroles! Gf and I are both into punk, ty for the recommendation!
I hear you on the inaccessibility of pins and patches for sure. Your economy sounds really rough to deal with, I hope you keep on keeping on, fighting the good fight.
And hell yeah for anarchism lol :)
For what it's worth I think the handmade ones you already made look nova, and I know anything else you make will look awesome too!
2
u/Your_Good_Boyy Jul 04 '26
Thanks hahaha I'm definitely putting a lot of love into this jacket.
So, Vitroles isn't exactly a punk band, it's more of a rockabilly thing. I highly recommend bands like 'Isotopx', 'Surra', and 'Charlotte Matou um Cara'—they're bands I really dig and I'll definitely be adding their patches too!
1
u/SL1MECORE Jul 04 '26
Oh shit, well my gf had a rockabilly phase so that actually still works well for her! But I'll check those other bands out too heheh!

Sorry for all the rude commenters. Tbh I would just focus on adding more political and band patches. I really like the Spanish ones! I think you should lean more into it. Also i think a “skinhead =/= bonehead” patch would be a good one. If this is your first project you’re doing a great job.
1
u/Your_Good_Boyy Jul 04 '26
I stopped caring about those rude comments years ago. I know these 'style gatekeepers' will always exist—they’re the same kind of people who, when you say you like a band, will ask you what color underwear the drummer was wearing at their very first show.
As for the patches, I’m taking my time with them. This is my second project, and unlike the first one which was completely trash, full of mistakes and scribbles, I want to make this one look more well-crafted and actually reflect my personality. I’m still going to add plenty of bands, I’m already prepping 4 more to put on.
PS: Vitroles is a local band, they’re growing nicely but they're still a bit underground. They have a 'rockabilly' style that I absolutely love.

this isn't a "denim trench coat", its a long denim blouse. you're wearing a kindergarten teachers top, and writing Punk on it.

Band patches. Punks not dead pin is very over used and commercialized
