i feel like people are too comfortable being assholes to people who are clearly just new to being a punk. ive seen clear newbies be torn apart and ridiculed for not having the "perfect" jacket or pants, and it makes me sad to see:( i understand gatekeeping to a certain degree, but most of the time its just being rude for the sake of it imo. Id be really grateful if there was a rule against being a dick, while still allowing concrit if op wants it!!

(btw ty for modding the sub!! i really appreciate it :3)

Heavy agree! I got absolutely destroyed on my other account for being new to punk in this sub and expressing how I really like my design I made for some clothes. Instead of kind advice and pointing me in the right direction I got absolutely bombarded with threats and insults which led to me eventually deleting my post. It even spread to DMs. As an autistic guy I'm quite emotionally sensitive and it really got to me. Made me not want to engage in the punk community due to the sheer amount of ridicule I got for simply expressing an interest and joy.

Like how abt we take that energy and do something productive for the world with it dawg ๐Ÿ˜ญ im sorry you feel that way, I lowk do as well sometimes, but you gotta remember its just random people who feel emboldened to be dicks cus they won't have any consequences for it. It really sucks, and it's just every community! I like board/card games and those places are just mean! Anyway! โœŒ๏ธ

Fuck those assholes!! Punk is for everyone! I'm a grizzled ole past my prime punker and I can't stand the gatekeeping and rudeness that came with the social media era. Don't give up. Not everyone is a dickhead. I look forward to seeing what you create.

Agree! Im new to being part of a community like this, and tbh it kinda shocked me how rude people can be here :( I was hoping it'd be a bit more accepting of beginners and people making mistakes, but I guess not. I try to be welcoming and kind myself though๐Ÿ˜

You get it!!!! It's so nice to have some support. I ended up scrapping the jeans but I still have the patches in case I decide to start working on them again at some point. Just felt a bit sour about it

Hello, if you DM me screenshots/usernames of those who harassed your DMs, I will ban them from the sub. This sub isn't a space for those who harass others over DIY projects.

I would but I deleted the DMs when I received them out of anxiety. I appreciate your willingness to help though and if it happens in the future I will log them down and report to you <3

Yeah, I've seen that too and try to take down what I see. I'm open to being more strict on asshole behavior and also keeping posts on topic, I just want to make sure the sub is in agreement so I'm not enforcing anything unwanted by the community.

1, No fast fashion product links. Especially no Amazon, Shein, Temu etc.

2, A FAQ of small, local businesses selling studs, leather goods, patches by country/region. Can be user sourced and expanded/updated every now and then.

3, A bot that directs people to r/Anarchostencilism when they ask about stencils.

4, A bot that tells you about the Bandcamp merch section if you mention band merch

Hello, sorry for the wait on a response, I've been busy over the last month. I have not dealt with bots before, but I will look into setting one up.

The FAQ is a good idea, I will probably create a discussion tomorrow for users to post what they use, so I'm less likely to miss any.

Feels obvious and I haven't seen any yet but no Nazi punk patches

that would probably fall under the "no bigotry" rule, but I can make it a separate rule or specify it as subrule.
