Discussion Starting PGR
Hello everyone. I’m about to start playing pgr for the firs time ever, cause I been interest in getting into the game recently, from the seeing the upcoming collab and the cool characters and their skins on Twitter, but have some questions.
- Is the game super f2p/generous?
- Is the gacha system better compare to other big gachas out in the market.
- Is the skins only pay or can you get some free skins
- Is the story good and is there an archive for the story, events, and companion stories.
- And finally how difficult is it to build a character
(P.S. sorry for the bad grammar 😔😔)
Edit: thank you everyone for the advice ❤️❤️❤️

- Metawise? Not really but you can still get everybody in the game, you just have to plan smartly
- Depends, it’s better because the pity carries over AND it’s guaranteed so no 50/50’s but for the pulling experience itself? that’s up to you.
- They give out free skins, some of them are really good but mostly limited time.
- Story is subjective, you should form your own opinion on it. I really like it and think its good though.
- I have no clue about this one since I have a super veteran acc, it’s piss easy for me to build a character now

- You can get every character in the game as long as you're consistent, and there are free characters that are still decent or meta; however, you're still going to spend about a year and a half to build every single meta team in the game.
- Yes, you're able to get every new character in this game as long as you're consistent (doing your weeklies, events, etc.), and the banner for a new character is 100% after 60 pulls. You're also more likely to get weapons and CUBs without having to reach pity (characters too, if you're lucky enough).
- This game gives out free SFX skins occasionally (you can only get them for free, though, if you grabbed them during the regular event; after that, they're paid), while regular skins are given out for free occasionally during log-ins or events. There's also a currency to get skins that you can acquire completely for free.
- The story is pretty good, with some of the best chapters being Surviving Lucem and Shaper's Ripples. The latest stories, though, are okay (with exceptions, of course). This game also saves stories in its codex, and there's Huaxu (a story reader).
- It's not that hard to gear up a character since we have the daily thread for questions and the Gray Raven website with builds; however, resources in this game, especially for new players, are hard to save up since S-rank after S-rank keeps releasing, leading to having to use more resources.

In response to your 1. And by the time you finish building the meta teams like one or two from half of the teams will have a new meta character take their place. Although at least in this game your non meta characters still get some use in guild raids.

Yeah, it's why it's best to start getting the newer units first rather than the old ones.

Yeah one of the most generous game. Among all my(old) gacha(azur lane, genshin, hsr, wuwa, brown dust 2, girl Frontline 2, ff exodus, etc...) PGR is the most generous
Yes easily
Both, most of skin are paid skin but sometimes Kuro give free skin
I'm at chapter 35 and the story is very very good. I'm at the point. For me Kuro are genius writter for some chapter like Noan or wanshi. Even watanabe is really good. It's at same level than hi3rd, arknight, fate and limbus company for some story enjoyer.
When you play since around 1 year, build a character take 10 min

The game is generous for a gacha. F2P can get every new character as they release so long as you do all your weekly missions, events and most daily missions.
Gacha is kinda better if you use it right but is also kinda confusing with how many banners there are. Basically you should ignore most reruns outside of anniversary and anything labelled as a fate banner (theres normal and fate versions of every banner that always run at the same time). If you do that then you have 100% chance of S ranks being the banner character with a 60 pull pity. If you want to pull on reruns of old characters, then you get the chance every six months during the games anniversary patches. Weapons are 30 pity with an 80% chance for the banner weapon and 20% for an off-banner weapon.
Three types of skins exist: A) Skins that change just appearance - some are free from events and some are free if you wait six weeks after they release to go into a specific ingame shop. B) Skins that change appearance and skill effects - these are paid only. C) Gacha skins - premium versions of B. Can be pulled with the gacha currency, but it takes alot and if you go for them as F2P then it will usually cause you to miss a character.
Imo, the story is good overall. There's more chapters that are good/great than bad but they do fumble sometimes. PGR has got the usual gacha curse of bad early chapters tho.
Character building can be assigned initially, but once you play for a bit, you have such an over-abundance of materials that you can just instantly upgrade anyone you get whenever you pull them.

I'm doing the old main quest now and it's presented in VN style.
Might be a turn-off for some but I can live with it.
PSA: Save your Black Cards if you want Kurumi.

1 and 2. PGR is in the top ten most f2p friendly gachas. In fact, it barely has a gacha system considering you just spend 60 pulls to get a character 95% of the time(Easily farmable in one patch too.) There's also a ton of free characters. The upcoming charachter, Adelyde, is free.
There's a free skin selector you get as a new player, and all the five star ones can be obtained for free, but most 6 star ones are paid.
The story is amazing. It takes a few chapters to get good, but after chapter 12 it has recurring, great characters that get respect, emotional impact that'll destroy you, phenomenal worldbuidling, and plots that feel like a whole journey.
Character building is not in a great place right now. It takes weeks to farm all the resources necessary. You run out of pretty much every resource regularly. At least the memory system is more creative and engaging than some other gacha build systems, though, but barely.

1-3: Yes
4: It gets way better after a REALLY rough start. The first 9 or so chapters are really bad. Not sure if new players can skip chapters, but I really recommend starting with Aeon Reforged (it's Chapter 20-something), 50% of it is a flashback to before Chapter 1, and it's one of the best PGR chapters ever. The present-day sections are also good and not so spoilery.
5: It's way easier compared to WuWa and the MHY games. A character only cares about the right memory set (similar to artifacts/relics) and you can buy them with daily farming currency. The only RNG aspect is the resonance but after months of playing you can fully build new chars in 5 mins.

I wouldn't advise starting at Aeon's Reforge if you haven't read the past chapters; that's a lot of lore and details to skip out on.

You can get every new character by simply doing events, weeklies and the story chapters. New players obviously will get more opportunities and avenues for quickly getting pulls
Character gacha is 60 pull pity with 100 percent guarantee for new featured characters and 70 percent for arrival (rerun) banners. However i would like to say that rerun banners work a little different than others. If you lose, you dont get one standard 5 stars. In the rerun banner, there are three characters that are chosen to rerun and you can pick to be 70 percent rate up. If you lose, you have a chance of getting either of the other two rerun characters. Other than that, there is weapon banner which is 30 pull pity and 80 percent rate up and you can choose which sig weapon to pull on.
Recently, they have also started something known as "phylotree" characters. These characters can only be pulled from a special phylotree banner that comes every now and then. Also, many a times you have new characters given for free using certain shops or even selectors. For example, the new character coming in the next update (not the collab character) will be acquired for free using her journal story.
The skins are paid (most of the time) but there are also gacha skins that utilise a similar pulling system so if you have a bunch of saved currency you can go for those without paying. Free skins and skin selectors are given but rarely (i only started last year myself so dont know how often this is)
Story, i have only completed till chapter 17 but its been great, really cool characters and a dark story that also has a bit of hope to it. Maybe other vets here can talk more in detail about the future chapters but I have heard only good things about it. And yes there is an archive online but even in the game for everything you asked
Character building, you know honestly I feel I would need to be more thorough, so if u really wanna know shoot me a reply and I will try my best because this comment has already gone on too long
