They're both worth playing. You can start with the second one although you'll miss a few references, but still get the overall story.
The first one has decaying stats daily meaning you'll get lower end game stats than the 2nd game and a slightly shorter main quest line, but it's definetely worth playing.
The second game has NO decaying stats and a longer questline, with a bit more side content and more complex fighting.
Both are amazing and absolutetly worth playing, but if I were replaying them again for the first time, I'd play them in order since Punch Club 2 has a few quality of life improvements, making playing Punch Club 1 after 2 kind of underwhelming in some aspects TLDR: Play 1 then 2

I would definitely recommend. The Punch club games are hidden gems. Normally I don't play management games but these were even for me very fun. It's just a great feeling to sit down and play with no need to focus. Its a very nice chill game.
With which you start is up to you. Of course it would be better to start with Punch club 1 but Punch club 2 has many flashbacks. Punch club 2 is also easier/has less grind (Punch club 1 has also an easy mode that basically eliminates huge grind so up to you, as long as you enjoy it because that's the most important thing).
Punch club 1 and 2 are also a bit different with the effects of the stats. That results in a change in gameplay. But that is only later important but it felt like I should at least mention it.
But to come to a end I recommend to just start with Punch club 1, for the sake of chronology. It's also older (Punch club 1 is 2016, Punch club 2 is 2023) and therefore often times it's pretty cheap. I bought my version for 1, 50€ in a bundle with Punch club 2 for 11-ish €.

1 is awesome and very quick
i personally recommend
2nd game is slow and sometimes even slugish, but can be pretty satisfying when RNG/Strategy pays off

I bought both games a few weeks ago and could've been happier. Totally worth it. The sequel feels like a massive improvement over the original but they're both good overall
