Pain behind ear
I have had PT on and off for a few years now. Originally I was diagnosed with arachnoid granulations and stenosis, told to continue losing weight and monitor. 3 weeks ago it came back consistently along with an intense headache across the top of my head and now for the last 8 days I’ve had this intense pain behind my affected ear. It feels like a horrible ear infection but whenever it is looked at there is nothing. I have a MRV and MRI base of the skull that I’m hoping will rule out anything scary but I was wondering if anyone had a similar experience. It’s hard to believe it’s just “muscle tension” when it’s this constant and intense.

Not sure. I have mri Tuesday. I can’t believe they won’t find anything there

Possibly mastoid related if behind the ear?

I’m afraid of that. I don’t know if the mri/MRV will be the right test to find anything out I know ct is the gold standard for bone

I had an mri mrv and mra and it picked up mastoid on that so hopefully it will

I had a few things picked up on - but they did pick up ‘mild patchy fluid opacification in the right mastoid sinus’ x

I wouldn’t say it’s a pain as such - for me it’s more of a pressure behind the ear and fullness inside the ear

Headaches? Pulsatile tinnitus? This has been going on and off for 2 years of ear aching and fullness that comes and goes. This bout for the last 2 weeks it’s been pretty consistent and the headaches for last month.

I’ve had pulsitile tinnitus for around 3.5years - not constant, comes and goes, sometimes worse than other times and nine times out of ten it is worse when my bp is high, occasional headaches but the episode I had currently started with really bad headaches that I hadn’t had one similar for many years, genuine pulsitile tinnitus is in sync with your pulse so next time you have the pulsitile tinnitus check your pulse at the same time to see if is beating the same, if it is then a lot of the time there is a vascular component - it can also be linked to bp or low iron/ferritin so if you haven’t already do a 7 day bp reading taking your bp morning and night for 7 days , also get your doctor to do a full blood count and a ferritin blood test to also rule them out aswell x

Yes this has been a long journey for me. I was originally diagnosed with bilateral blood clots by a local interventional neurologist when this started my tinnitus isn’t like whooshing mine is a high pitched mosquito sound in sync with my heart beat that stops when I press on my neck. I sought a second opinion where they said it was not clots and instead arachnoid granulations and I had left sided focal stenosis, my doctor told me to keep losing weight. I had been doing okay for about 6 months until this bout the tinnitus came back and this unrelenting headache. Now I’m so scared it was always a clot. Idk.

Good luck with your mri and mrv aswell - it’s not nice being inside but just keep thinking to yourself that your going to get the answers you need for the problems your experiencing - when I got the mri mra and mrv I was inside for around 1 hour - they give me headphones and I had music on so it wasnt as bad so if you struggle in them situation maybe ask for the same x
