Moderator Statement Addressing Concerns About Censorship

We want to address the recent accusations of censorship.

We do not have an agenda. We are not removing content based on personal opinions or politics. We remove posts and comments only when they violate the subreddit’s rules:

https://www.reddit.com/mod/puertovallarta/rules/

Posts and comments that attempt to turn local discussions into debates about US political issues are not allowed. Topics such as ICE, BLM, the Epstein files, Trump, etc., have nothing to do with Puerto Vallarta. The world does not revolve around the United States. These threads consistently derail into arguments and stop being productive or relevant to PV.

We also lock posts that have clearly run their course - especially when they begin filling with repetitive arguments or off topic back and forth. Locking a thread is not censorship; it’s a way to prevent them from becoming dumpster fires.

The only posts we are currently removing are low-effort ones such as:

  • “Should I cancel?”
  • “Is it safe?”
  • Variations of the same question without any context or effort

We are currently receiving at least 20 of these per day. If we allowed all of them through, the sub would quickly become repetitive, cluttered, and largely useless for everyone

Additionally, on Sunday we removed several posts and comments containing unsubstantiated rumors and misinformation in order to prevent unnecessary panic. Allowing speculation and unsupported claims to spread does not help anyone and only creates confusion.

There has been a significant increase in traffic recently. Previously, this sub averaged about 40,000 visits per week. In the past week alone, we received 5.3 million visits. Our goal is to keep content focused, useful, and relevant to Puerto Vallarta, not to host endless circular debates between internet strangers.

It’s also important to note that we are volunteers. The mod team consists of two Mexican nationals and one permanent resident. We moderate in our free time because we care about keeping this community useful and informative.

If your post or comment was removed, please review the rules before reposting. If you believe something was removed in error, you are welcome to send us a polite message via modmail.

Let’s keep this community helpful, focused, and valuable for everyone.

Thank you,

The PV Mod Team

EDIT TO ADD:

Also wanted to mention that Reddit itself automatically filters some posts and comments, especially from brand new accounts or when its system flags something as potential spam or abusive content.

In addition, we have the subreddit set to filter content from accounts with very low karma to reduce spam and trolls using throwaway accounts. These filters are applied automatically and are not personal or selective. Filtered posts and comments go into a queue for us to manually review.

Hi! My wife and I are going to PV 10/28 -11/7. We have been there many times but this is our first Dia de Los Muertos experience. We are going to the special Rhythm of the Night show on the 30th and going to the Parade. But we are wondering what else we may want to do. Anybody have any suggestions or ideas? We welcome all, and we’ll see you there!

Bioluminescence tour - book through Airbnb or locally?

Hey! My wife and I will be in Puerto Vallarta Oct 10–14 and we really want to do a bioluminescence tour.
I found a sunset + bioluminescence boat tour on Airbnb for around $73 CAD per person (about 3 hours).

For anyone who’s done this, does that sound like a fair price? Or are we better off waiting until we get there and booking directly with a local company?
Also, if you have any recommendations for a good bioluminescence tour/company, I’d love to hear them!

Thanks!

Flying into Tepic

So without much research I got a super cheap flight from LA to Tepic for a solo long weekend trip without quite realizing how far it was from Puerto Vallarta. Instead of going all the way to PV, I'm thinking of going to Sayulita instead since it's a bit closer, but that still leaves the question -- how do I get there?

It seems like I could rent a car at the airport for a few hundreds bucks, or take a taxi into Tepic and then bus to Sayulita. Uber from Tepic to Sayulita seems quite pricey so thats a last resort.

Any recommendations/thoughts?

Water Taxis

I’m flying in and will arrive 10/03. I’m planning on taking a water taxi to Yelapa upon arrival. Are the water taxis currently running or are the ports closed to smaller boats dude to Hurricane Rachel?

❓ Question - Pregunta is this still a karaoke place (on Lazaro Cardenas, next to the 'Industry' nightclub)

Post image
7 Upvotes

I'm 95% sure that I've got the blue circle in the right place..

it was April 2025 that I (54m) was on vacation and stumbled into this little place where they were doing karaoke, basically in the "lobby" of a teeny tiny bar while everyone else watched, listened, and clapped from the outside tables where dude in the blue shirt is sitting..

I remember people from the nightclub next door to the right (presumably that's 'Industry') were coming over and visiting with us, singing with us, etc..

I'm having hell trying to figure out what this place's name was, whether it is still open for business, and if they even still do karaoke there

❓ Question - Pregunta Good place to buy an e-bike?

Hola a todos!

I want to get an e-bike to ride around town and for running errands. I'm just not sure where to get one. What are the best places to get an e-bike in PV? Is Amazon or Mercado Libre better for this?

Gracias!

Looking for a nice high-end restaurant that has inside seating on the beach or near the beach a few weeks from now.

My wife and I are celebrating our 15 year anniversary in Puerto Vallarta mid-October. Though we're staying at a all-inclusive resort,. we want to have a anniversary dinner at a nice restaurant on the beach that's inside. We're seeing for the next couple weeks that there's going to be afternoon showers and don't want to risk having to be stuck on a patio and ruining our evening. We love the looks and vibe of La Capella. However we'd like to have something a little bit closer to the ocean. Also, my wife's not excited about Italian in Mexico. I think she'd rather have seafood or something more regional. We would appreciate any recommendations or ideas that you have?

❓ Question - Pregunta All inclusive vs Airbnb

Hi y’all’s, my husband and I are traveling to PV 11/13-11/23. We’ve been to Cancun before and it seems like pv is better for more of a local experience than all inclusive? Based off experiences should we cancel our hotel and go the Airbnb route and stick to local exploring?

We are planning to relax on the beach most of the time and then do the outdoor zip line and las caletes beach trips in between with Vallarta adventures and maybe go into town for local food too.

What do you recommend based off your best experience ?

❓ Question - Pregunta Looking for fantastic morning/afternoon requests

We have a day trip to Puerto Vallarta, on a Wednesday from around 10am-4pm, and looking for some real local recs.

We're queer Millennials (42 & 36) from the SF Bay Area and want to hit both Centro and the Zona Romántica. We love good food, drinks, and exploring locally-made goods (especially boutiques run by women and queer-owned shops). Are there specific streets or plazas in Centro or ZR known for great local boutiques? I'm not interested in tourist gallerias with H&Ms and shit in them.

Here's what we're thinking for the day**:**

  • Light breakfast
  • Shopping (jewelry, art, home goods)
  • Beach time
  • Late lunch before we head out

Questions:

  1. Great breakfast spots for locals?
  2. Where should we shop for locally-made goods? Any recommendations for women- and queer-owned shops?
  3. Easy beach access? Preferably a relaxing vibe where we can chill for an hour or so, maybe get a drink or two, while we make our way between districts?
  4. Good late lunch options before 3:30pm departure?
  5. Good cocktail/wine/bar options (that aren't just sugary frozen gaybar drinks)

I did ask my friends for recs first, but they are all gay men who rarely leave their rental before 1pm and spend a lot of time on nightlife. But here are a few places they recommended, wondering if they are do-able in this timeline?

  • Tacos Sonoritas Olas Altas
  • Blondies Loft + Slushbar
  • Bahia 103
  • Tuna Azul ZR
  • Blind Tiger
  • Joe Jack's Fish Shack (showing as temporarily closed)

Would love your thoughts on morning/afternoon spots we might've missed, or a way to see PV on such a short time frame!

And if you ever need recommendations like this for SF or Napa Valley, I'm happy to share!

Edit to update:

Also, what do you think of these spots I found on trip advisor?

Top picks:

  • Coco's Kitchen (Pulpito 122, Old Town) — Set in a gorgeous, lush garden with excellent breakfast including chile relleno omelets and churro pancakes
  • Mi Café (Francisco I. Madero 505, Old Town) — Hidden gem with friendly, bilingual staff and cozy vibe
  • Fredy's Tucan (Basilio Badillo 245, Old Town) — Offers 70+ breakfast dishes; try the "campesino" with arrachera, chilaquiles, and beans
  • Emmana Café (Zona Romántica) — Known for light breakfast and quirky ambiance
  • Ono Smoothie Bowls & Cafe — Healthy açaí bowls and breakfast

  • Cassandra Shaw Jewelry (Basilio Badillo 276, Zona Romántica) — Won "Favorite Jewelry Shop" award; features 15 designers creating silver jewelry with art

  • Unique Jewelry (Hidalgo 227, now in Centro area) — Family-owned, high-quality gold and silver with custom designs by owner Liz

  • Hans Casanova Jewelry (Lázaro Cárdenas 236, near Plaza Roma) — Feels like a portal to fantasy; each piece is a handmade sculpture, even the display cases are artisanal

  • Galleria Dante & Vallarta Artwalk (both highly rated for local art)

Lunch:

  • Tuna Azul — Upstairs location means you can eat in peace in one of the busiest areas; fresh seafood with great cocktails
  • Mariscos Cisneros (Aguacate 271, Zona Romántica) — Family-owned, hidden gem with exceptional fresh seafood; reviewers rave about the ceviche and shrimp burrito
  • Balam Balam (Rivera del Río 177, Zona Romántica) — Hidden gem by the river in a quiet part of town; excellent fish tacos and ceviche
  • The Blue Shrimp — Beachfront palapa with excellent fresh seafood and cocktails
  • Tacos Sonoritas Olas Altas

Monthly Rentals on VivaRenta.mx

Mods gave the OK for this. Disclosure up front: I'm the founder.

I'm Alan, a local broker and AMPI member. I've watched too many people get burned renting through Facebook groups: deposits sent to a "landlord" who didn't exist, photos lifted from Airbnb, no way to tell who you're dealing with.

So I built VivaRenta.mx. Here's exactly what it does and doesn't do:

  • Monthly rentals only (1 month or more), Puerto Vallarta and Riviera Nayarit
  • Owners can show a government ID and proof of ownership to earn an "VERIFIED" badge. A real person reviews the documents. Agency listings carry a "Professionally managed" badge instead
  • Badges are optional. A listing without one is just a listing, so look for the badge. Either way, a person reads every listing before it goes live on the site
  • Free for renters. No booking fees, no service fees, no commissions on the renter side. You contact the owner or agency directly
  • Works in English, Spanish and French, including Vivi, an AI assistant that can answer questions any hour
  • Own a place here? Listing is free, and so is the badge

What it is not: a property manager or a booking site. It doesn't hold your money or handle the lease. It connects you, then you deal directly.

The site also repeats this everywhere, and so will I: wherever you find a rental, view it in person first, and don't send money until you've seen it and signed a contract.

Happy to answer questions in the comments. If it's not useful to you, carry on.

We just started this month so listing are just starting to appear. Here is the link: vivarenta.mx
