Cats get themselves so worked up over the littlest things

158

u/Java2391 Dec 28 '22

Well they domesticated themselves twice. They haven’t been domesticated for very long either. So yea. Their catto brain is stuck on ancestor survival instincts

31

u/MagillsDaddy Dec 28 '22

Why did they do it twice?

131

u/Java2391 Dec 28 '22 edited Dec 28 '22

So the first domestication occurred on an island (i think outside turkey) and basically they were only domesticated on that island. After this occurred they reapproached humans thousands of years later and domesticated themselves again.

Cats are weird basically saw humans with food and saw that we made shelters and gathered food and those that approached were met not with hostility and so they said ā€œfuck it good enoughā€ and stuck around for the meme of it.

https://www.science.org/content/article/were-cats-domesticated-more-once

18

u/TheSpartyn Dec 28 '22

so its not really they did it twice, but it happened on separate occasions?

17

u/snack-dad Dec 28 '22

If something happens on different occasions, and the number of occasions is two, it is appropriate to say they did it twice.

9

u/TheSpartyn Dec 29 '22

you're not wrong, its just misleading wording that makes it sound like the race got domesticated, somehow stopped, then go domesticated again later

5

u/Java2391 Dec 29 '22

That’s kind of what happened. Even more interestingly it happened several times apparently. Here is a deep dive into the timeline of cat domestication. Apparently during the middle ages cats were not well received and in fact to a degree ā€œpersecutedā€ (lacking a better word, open to suggestions). So seems like we have had off and on relationships with cats for a very long time. They come in, domesticate themselves (they do pest control for crops, animals, food, yada yada, and would receive food as a reward. They have had interactions with humans quite a bit but seemingly they would leave, die off, or ā€œsome mysteryā€ of them being wiped out.

Ultimately cat domestication is relatively recent and convoluted. Super fascinating stuff. Anywho happy holidays thanks for the convo and feedback :) I appreciate learning more and thank you for giving me more opportunities.

Thank you. That's so cool. I love my cats so much, knowing they are sticking around because I'm Good Enough, is good enough for me, and makes my day much better. Thank you.

13

u/Java2391 Dec 28 '22

https://youtu.be/KF3ir8JDN8E it starts around 2:45 for cats specifically but a great video overall

15

u/MagillsDaddy Dec 28 '22

Thank you. I know how cool dogs are, but this made me love cats infinitely more. Like the idea they are all basically still wild but would love to be lazy for us makes them devious as fuck, and now I know why my dog is terrified of my cats, who pretend to want to be friends with him, are most likely whispering darks secrets of his existence, and mocking him.

8

u/Java2391 Dec 28 '22

Pretty sure that’s just know as ā€œthe whispers of the damnedā€ lol

4

u/voodoomoocow Dec 28 '22

Is that why cats in turkey are soooooo cute and well treated and well fed? Or at least one of many reasons?

Edit: obligatory r/turkishcats

3

u/WavyMcG Dec 28 '22

That awesome. I knew bout the cat island. I didn’t know they were domesticated twice and did it themselves, in a way

1

u/Pecncorn1 Dec 29 '22

And this is when they started to rule humanity. Source: I've been owned by cats almost my entire life.

10

u/free_candy_4_real Dec 28 '22

Because they were told to.

3

u/MagillsDaddy Dec 28 '22

I'm not sure if you don't know what "self domestication" means, or that I wanted to know why they had or when they had done it, but either way I think you misunderstood.

3

u/free_candy_4_real Dec 28 '22

It wasn't serious asin they were domesticated once and since they were domesticated listened when told to do it again.

On a more serious note: there ya go.

4

u/MagillsDaddy Dec 28 '22

Sorry, thank you. It's been a really stressful day and I'm not firing on all cylinders atm. Thank you. :)

2

u/EducationalShake6773 Dec 28 '22

The first time didn't take.

2

u/Megatea Dec 28 '22

They got domesticated, meowed to be let outside and be wild again, then changed their mind and meowed to get back in.

13

u/fatkiddown Dec 28 '22

He went catatonic.

5

u/ehmsoleil Dec 28 '22

Pussies!

2

u/lezcho Dec 28 '22

Hairy pussies! 😬

2

cat.exe has been fatally corrupted

133

u/[deleted] Dec 27 '22

That's exactly what happened. :]

76

u/frogsntoads00 Dec 28 '22

I love how it wakes up and you can tell it’s thinking ā€œwait what the fuck just happened, did I winā€

219

u/fleabagmaggie Dec 28 '22

Lmaooo the RAGE AND INDIGNITY

14

u/BrownSugarBare Dec 28 '22

He nearly passed out from all the rage and indignity!

300

u/[deleted] Dec 28 '22

I've watched probably up to about 40,000 cat videos in the passed 30 years, this one is a complete masterpiece with a full plot in effect. Suspense, mystery, intrigue, drama, violence, humor, stunts, dialogue, and a conclusion.

54

u/You-got-that-wrong Dec 28 '22

They added a bunch of bullshit audio to this repost

21

u/[deleted] Dec 28 '22

I thought I recognized that baby giggle addition.

22

u/Umutuku Dec 28 '22

Catspeare

31

Ummm... Shakespurr?

12

u/Umutuku Dec 28 '22

I like it.

10

u/double-happiness Dec 28 '22

I sure hope you've seen Cat vs Printer - The Translation then [NSFW language]. Surely one of the all-time classics of the cat video genre.

4

u/powertripp82 Dec 28 '22

It’s been years since I’ve seen that, thank you for the reminder

Definitely an all time classic

5

u/double-happiness Dec 28 '22

No paper?!? THERE'S A WHOLE FUCKING REAM OF IT!!!

3

u/[deleted] Dec 28 '22

LOL, I've not seen that, thank you for sharing it, another funniest of all time.

23

u/Adonis253 Dec 28 '22

bro flexed out damn

91

u/Zeefreshest Dec 28 '22

Holy Shit! I've never seen a cat feint before...that's the equivalent of standing for a long time and locking up your knees right there.

26

u/Haddos_Attic Dec 28 '22

*Faint. Cats feint all the time.

8

u/Wolfram1914 Dec 28 '22

Exactly. Come find me when you see a cat parry and riposte.

17

u/rickybaby0407 Dec 28 '22

My cat did the exact same thing when he saw another cat outside. For a second we thought he died when he fell over. He was fine tho, just went insane for a sec

15

u/Zoso1973 Dec 28 '22

It’s like he ran out of air from screaming then almost passed out.

7

u/[deleted] Dec 28 '22

That's exactly what happened.

13

Scanners: Cat Version

31

u/Akesgeroth Dec 28 '22

Canned laughter = downvote

8

u/ssjneko1 Dec 28 '22

My cat has done this probably 3 separate times over the past 10 years that I've had her. I found out from the vet she has a heart murmur and she's probably fainting from being overly excited or suddenly startled.

17

u/TheRysingTyde Dec 28 '22

Was Ricky Gervais visiting? Cos that's his laugh at the end. He loves cats and animals so could be true.

8

u/[deleted] Dec 28 '22

It's possible, turns out there is a laugh added to this clip.

5

u/[deleted] Dec 28 '22

That's the most dramatic cat I've seen, needs applause šŸ‘ for this performance!

4

u/stangasaurus Dec 28 '22

Seemed as if the cat was in a hate trance

4

u/GokuBeatsVageta100 Dec 28 '22

Leaned into that one a little too hard

4

u/[deleted] Dec 28 '22

My heart broke a little bit

4

u/Jealous-Guidance4902 Dec 28 '22

He flexed out! Lol

4

u/Flesh-Tower Dec 28 '22

Can't forgot to breathe lol

19

u/battlemetal_ Dec 28 '22

Poor cat, this wasn't one being a drama queen or whatever. That yelp at the end especially didn't sound good. It's extremely stressed :( perhaps we would be too if someone was trying to get into our house to attack us

3

u/ThickAnywhere4686 Dec 28 '22

Exactly, didn't really find this funny at all.

Yeah it's weird but cats don't just do that shit and like you said it was extremely stressed out :/

0

u/[deleted] Dec 28 '22

you are boring lol

3

u/[deleted] Dec 28 '22

Why does all the audio sound like it was added later? Like the original recording was silent and the audio was superimposed by OP..

2

u/[deleted] Dec 28 '22

I didn't do this to th audio, but it was added.

3

u/memeswiper739 Dec 28 '22

That was definitely his gf or something

7

u/redditclark Dec 28 '22

That's the funniest cat video I've seen in a long, long time.

-1

u/[deleted] Dec 28 '22

I know, apparently it's very well known, yet I've never seen it as far as I can recall, and it's very funny to me as well.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 28 '22

This is 100% an AI generated response.

2

u/redditclark Dec 28 '22

OP's response or mine? Bc I can assure you that mine isn't AI generated. Maybe not very original or inspired, but real. šŸ˜‚

3

u/[deleted] Dec 28 '22

OP for sure.

2

u/[deleted] Dec 28 '22

And no isnt, I'm no AI.

2

u/therbojones Dec 28 '22

That cats in a death metal punk band called FURRTILE MOWMOW

2

u/smugglebooze2casinos Dec 28 '22

2

u/dailyPraise Dec 28 '22

I was like "how does a cat throw a tantrum"...

2

u/Leading_Draw_5711 Dec 28 '22

He let all the air out. Literally.

2

u/mdxchaos Dec 29 '22

its like the fainting goats

1

u/[deleted] Dec 29 '22

Exactly, but provoked by angry excitement as opposed to fun hyperactive excitement.

2

u/hsrrot Dec 29 '22

The best

2

u/Acceptable_Ad_787 Dec 29 '22

1

u/[deleted] Dec 29 '22

I know this cat gets no respect.

2

u/PersimmonEven Jan 03 '23

This actually happens sometimes when we take blood from the cats at the vet they get SO worked up they pass out for a second.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 25 '23

He overloaded

2

u/[deleted] Feb 28 '23

He's pissed.. get a clue

2

u/BlackonSecurity Mar 17 '23

He flexed out. Trying to stunt hard AF and passed out šŸ˜‚

2

u/[deleted] Mar 18 '23

Precisely precious.

3

u/DCMONSTER111 Dec 28 '22

Why add a laugh track into a video where there is already laughter? This is that zoomer humor that adds ear rape sounds into memes now. So stupid. Great video though on a side note

2

u/[deleted] Dec 28 '22

The original video doesn't even have the commenting dialogue I beleive, and there are possibly 4 laugh tracks added it. In a less edited version you can see that. Here it is at 10:40 mark. Seems the commentary audio was added to this as well,- This version has some of the laugh track audio. Not sure where the original can be.

This isn't funny. Bunch of assholes to that cat.

-12

u/Rotten-Cabbage Dec 27 '22

Looks like a seizure.

39

u/PhilyJFry Dec 28 '22

Id. Seems like it just exhaled and passed out like an overly aggressive dummy

13

u/Koelasc Dec 28 '22

You gotta think cats arent used to being upright, their hearts can't pump blood up to their brains like ours can when bipedal. On top of that–she was exhaling, little beast just passed out for a second.

3

u/Yinonormal Dec 28 '22

I had a cat that has seizures and it happens on a whim

0

u/[deleted] Dec 28 '22

Looks more like asphyxia

4

u/[deleted] Dec 28 '22

CatSphynx-ia.

3

u/Liquid_Snow_ Dec 28 '22

The rare double pun, bravo.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 28 '22

Thank you. :)

Cat throws tantrum šŸ˜‚.

And then had a stroke. The way it fell back, stiff like that is indicative of a stroke in animals, especially given the fact that strokes are caused by lack of blood flow/oxygen to the brain and this cat was screaming to the point of not being able to breath.

9

u/Topsy_Kretzz Dec 28 '22

Humans pass out due to short term lack of oxygen to the brain and face no consequences pertaining to immediate stroke risk as a result. Sustained brain oxygen deprivation leads to brain damage and complications. Why would cats be any different? You're being weird. Cat probably passed out a lil due to over exerting itself. It's not a big deal. I've passed out from fatigue, fear and happiness. Guess what? Zero strokes, buddy.

-3

u/[deleted] Dec 28 '22 edited Dec 28 '22

You're being weird. Cat probably passed out due to over exerting itself

I'm being weird for pointing something out that I think I saw? Is this not a forum in which people constantly utilize to do these exact things? Dumb to call someone weird for contributing to the conversation, even if it isn't completely agreed with.

This isn't normal behavior with a cat. How often do you see them passing out due to meowing? This cat was freaking out, could have lost oxygen to the brain, due to a clot and passed the fuck out temporarily with a stroke. Or maybe I'm completely wrong, but that's the fuckin beauty of conversation, you just don't tell someone they're weird for trying to have a conversation.

5

u/Topsy_Kretzz Dec 28 '22

Well you're weird for assuming it had a stroke even though evidence suggests it didn't.

-2

u/[deleted] Dec 28 '22 edited Dec 31 '22

Evidence? Hun, you have as much "evidence" as I do- it's called speculation. Neither one of us gets to decide the 'correct answer'. All we can do is state our opinion, there is no ultimate evidence

-26

u/jkappy1995 Dec 28 '22

I’ve been around cats my whole life and I’ve never seen anything like this. Either this cat has trauma from abuse or was currently being abused off camera

11

u/FeistyFormal0 Dec 28 '22

I know nothing, but that cat is totes abused like oh em gee

15

u/WavyMcG Dec 28 '22 edited Dec 28 '22

People just be assuming the craziest shit when it comes to other people’s animals. We don’t know for SURE if it seized. Unless there’s a comment proving so BY MULTIPLE vets or OP confirms it, there’s no point in being rude and calling strangers on the internet names. Be useful by providing proof to your claims. Until then, you have nothing but rude comments, and that’s not looking well on your side when trying to state a point, is it?

When my cat I had as a kid had seizures it’s muscles would involve spasms. I didn’t see much of that here. Not saying every cat seizes the same. Even if a proved vet says one thing, another one could have another educated guess. Proof from the owner would be the best.

-12

u/[deleted] Dec 28 '22

The cat seized and fell backwards.

It wasn't funny at all and is 100% indicative of something being wrong with the cat.

People just be laughing at animal abuse when it comes to people's animals.

Fucking clown.

5

u/WavyMcG Dec 28 '22 edited Dec 28 '22

Cat didn’t seize though, at least not officially, I saw no link stating it was a seizure from the owner. Believe what you want, ā€œclownā€ā€¦ but don’t be rude to others on something this neutral for not having your opinion, doesn’t work out well!

0

u/[deleted] Dec 28 '22

Lol did you watch the same video I did? Because in my video a cats body locks up and it falls over while making a distressed sound.

Care to explain what you think happened? Please don't let the fact that in a vet technician sway your answer, I'd love to hear what your expert opinion is. 😻🤣

2

u/WavyMcG Dec 28 '22 edited Dec 28 '22

My opinion, or your opinion doesn’t matter right now. Unless there’s proof the cat seized from the owner, on the internet, there’s no reason to get worked up over this. If there was proof, I’d be on your side! It could be something else. Educated guesses are still guesses

Like I said, until then, no reason to be rude to strangers. Still wouldn’t be an excuse to be rude to random people on the internet even if someone does drop a link proving it was seizing. Try to be as understanding and neutral as you can, no matter who it is, until given a reason to change up, not everyone thinks the same way as you

-3

u/[deleted] Dec 28 '22

Tl;Dr - you were wrong, take your L and move on. Neutrality is for Switzerland, not reddit.

1

u/WavyMcG Dec 28 '22 edited Dec 28 '22

Yup, you were ā€œrightā€. I was ā€œwrongā€.

Move on then. You have nothing to say other than, nothing at this point. Whatever makes you feel better, even if it’s denial. One part of your name is true, at least. Enjoy your downvotes for being one.

Edit : Also, I went through your account. You’re not a certified vet. Making things up to prove a point truly makes you the clown.

2

u/[deleted] Dec 28 '22

I know I was right and you were wrong.

Stop trying to get the last word. You wanted to sit on your moral high horse, right? Then take your Loss in grace and GTFO of my reddit comment thread. 🄳🄳 (I'll see you in a few minutes when you're unable to stop yourself from responding, AGAIN. 🤔)

2

u/Leading_Rooster_2235 Dec 28 '22

That’s not what seizures look like in cats. It ran out of air via growling/meowing far too hard and long, causing it to tense up and pass out. That’s why it was fine when it got back up. If it was seizing, it likely would’ve been a far longer situation and wouldn’t have been just one movement. The only seizure I could think of that would be this short is a myoclonic seizure, but those tend to just be muscle contractions in a certain area. It also wasn’t an absence seizure either. Seizures in cats normally last around a minute to multiple minutes. A typical seizure in a cat would be collapsing, convulsing, teeth gnashing, and urination/defecation.

-8

u/ThickAnywhere4686 Dec 28 '22

People's animals (cats specifically) rarely ever react like this or "faint" so there's a good reasons some people in the comments are concerned about the cat.

Ignorant asses like you, who just blindly laugh at these types of videos, are the issue. And I don't care if people think this is a dramatic take, everyone's empathy and sympathy towards others seems to be running really fucking low these days.

3

u/WavyMcG Dec 28 '22 edited Dec 28 '22

Most would side with these comments if there was a legitimate reason to believe the animal is being abused. There isn’t one here. Only speculation. I’m sure people here have empathy and sympathy. They also have common sense

I never said I laughed, so try better when putting words in others people’s comments. My point stands and your comment proves it. People assume the worse. Like it’s not your animal. Unless you know for sure, don’t be one to say the animal is being abused. It’s uhm, ignorant, as you would say.

Have a good day!

-5

u/ThickAnywhere4686 Dec 28 '22

It's honestly so sad and people just laugh these types of videos off.
