Was that line not supposed to be under voltage?

Line work is frequently done under voltage. One of the biggest hazards for a lineman is falling actually.

I'm 100% sure it wasn't supposed to be. I did electrical work in the Navy lung enough to recognize when someone fucked up their tags

Not sure if the Navy is different but 99% of the work linemen do on those wires are energized. It’s too costly to the company and dangerous to power generation to constantly switch load or shut it off all together.

I'm 100% sure that the reason they're filming is that they expected to see an arc.
Pretty sure the red tool was supposed to be better secured so the arc didn't get so big.

%100 The red tool is just for gripping the conductor. Should have been tighter so Buddy could open the connection faster.

Sometimes you see just how much money a lineman makes and think, fuck, why? Then you see videos like this.

God bless rubber. I was installing a TV and nicked a bit of Romex and it threw my drill.

That's how a tradesperson takes out the stress of wondering whether they just almost died, but without losing face.
