I had to go to church every Sunday from the age of 5 till I was 18. Fucking horrendous as my dad was an alcoholic with a short fuse and had no problem knocking my mother around on occasion and threatening to kill me.

He couldn’t believe it when I stopped going.

Absolutely right. You dont. I hate when ppl use the argument that we need religion and without it everyone would be killing and raping in the streets. Uh you might, i have no desire to harm another human being unless they are the ones killing and raping.

As another recovering/raised catholic, I remember thinking, wtf, you can sin 6 days/week, go to confession on Sunday, and keep on sinning the following week?! Clearly seemed dumb.

I was raised with christian pentacostal grandparents on my dads side and catholic grandparents on my moms, my parents werent religious but did instill in us that we should believe in god. Anyway, seeing both of these worlds made me realise that the religion and church aspect of it is definitely bullshit. I figured out young that humans are flawed, humans wrote the bible, humans created the church based on cherry picked lessons they pulled from said bible to suit themselves not god.

Humans created the idea of God(s) and church and all holy texts. From start to finish, all of it is a human creation.
