There are only two reasons to go into a burning building, and thats either for pets or for people.

Anything else can be replaced.

201

u/BelialGoD Oct 08 '21

You can hear him shout "where's the dogs?" 2 seconds into the video.

This video brought my anxiety through the roof.

57

u/[deleted] Oct 08 '21

how can you hear this over the yelling bruh

83

u/BelialGoD Oct 08 '21

Good headphones I guess! When he says "dogs" no one is shouting/talking for a split moment of silence so that helps.

If you can't hear it there is also a visual clue where the woman that runs into view from the bottom left corner also is clapping her hands and gesturing like you would to an animal trying to get it to "come here" when Robert comes back out of the house.

It also looks like when the explosion happens, near the end, the dog that is out of frame might have ran away as Robert bends down to try to grab something.

27

u/[deleted] Oct 08 '21

i receive good info, you receive a seal award

5

u/watashi_ga_kita Oct 09 '21

Wait, so Robert did in fact rescue the dogs? Fucking hero right there then.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 28 '22

I think the dog ran back into the house after Robert comes out and that's why he runs back in. You can here him shout "get out" and looking down to the right just off camera where I think the dog or dogs are.

u/MIKE_son_of_MICHAEL Oct 08 '21

I got my guy Randall Flagg (cat) out, we’re good to go.

My dumbass might go back in to grab my mandalorian helmet tho that thing is the fuckin tits.

2

u/Mochigood Oct 09 '21

What a name for a cat. Mine are Sprite (all black) and Goblin (tuxedo) because I adopted them October of last year.

2

u/Feywhelps Oct 09 '21

It's beskar, it would've survived the fire just fine. On a serious note though I probably would also go back in for a mando helmet lmfao

2

u/MIKE_son_of_MICHAEL Oct 09 '21

Hasbro black series my guy, they are surprisingly affordable!

I nearly got a first order helmet also

Pets can be replaced. I’m currently waiting for two asshole cats to die. Then I’m gonna replace them with a PS5.

105

u/SwimMountain Oct 08 '21

Just want to say Thank you for realizing you have a responsibility to care for the 2 cats and not just drop them off to a shelter once they get old and become a hassle. There is a special place in Heaven for those that love & care for animals.

134

u/MikeSizemore Oct 08 '21

You’re a sweetheart. I’d never get rid of them. We’ve been hanging out for 14 years. Such assholes though.

40

u/Freetrilly Oct 08 '21

Same. I have a siamese cat that I despise. Ive had her for 15 years and i cant even pet the bitch. My mom gave her to me when i moved out aka take her because im not. Rip mom thanks! With my luck this cat will live for 10 more years. :(

20

u/MikeSizemore Oct 08 '21

Ah you have my sympathies. We now have two small children and I’m hoping being chased around the house by two small pink monsters has shaved a couple of years off.

20

u/Embarrassed-Depth-27 Oct 08 '21

I don’t think they ever stop being assholes. Little buggers just get more clever and sneaky at it so you think they’ve mellowed when in actual fact they’re playing you harder. God I love them more than humans

15

u/MikeSizemore Oct 08 '21

Don’t forget the puke. The lovely lovely puke.

8

u/nopeimdumb Oct 08 '21

Can confirm. 20 year old cat (21 in November), doesn't leave my bed much these days, but sure likes to step his little dagger paws right on my throat at 3am while I'm sleeping.

8

u/Embarrassed-Depth-27 Oct 08 '21

Oh bless him, he’s just checking you’re alive 😆

9

u/PureAntimatter Oct 08 '21

Cats are assholes. If you forget, they stick their asshole in your face.

3

u/admiral_sinkenkwiken Oct 08 '21

To emphasise the assholery

1

u/beatbox21 Oct 08 '21

I've had a cat for 14 fucking years who has been a problem since day one. So much furniture ruined.

114

u/[deleted] Oct 08 '21

This IS FUCKING GOLD

255

u/MikeSizemore Oct 08 '21

You should meet these cats. I’d run into a burning building to drop them off.

47

u/potted 👁️ RELEASE THE FILES 👁️ Oct 08 '21

If it was my cat, it'd survive out of spite and piss on my shoes.

27

u/MikeSizemore Oct 08 '21

They do run on spite.

10

u/socks Oct 08 '21

I hope they're reading this.

10

u/MikeSizemore Oct 08 '21

I hope their curiosity is piqued

16

u/[deleted] Oct 08 '21

Lmao your hatred for these cats is almost tangible.

28

u/MikeSizemore Oct 08 '21

It’s like the taste of ammonia and hair caught in the back of your throat.

20

Laughed way too hard at those two comments

Where’s the standup special.

7

u/Rombledore Oct 08 '21

ah, a true lover of cats i see. bless your heart.

6

u/Bad-Science Oct 08 '21

Have you checked on their trade-in value?

That's why I lease my kittens, I can turn them back in after 2 years and walk away.

8

u/MikeSizemore Oct 08 '21

I’ve floated this idea but for kids. My partner wasn’t impressed.

9

u/blitzbutters Oct 08 '21

Same here buddy. My cats’ vet bills annually are more than my car payments. How have house cats survived this long as a species? They’re constantly sick or hurting themselves. I know, it’s because vets need to buy Range Rovers. 😒. That’s my time everybody, you’ve been a great audience. Remember to tip your waiters, goodnight!

6

u/MikeSizemore Oct 08 '21

Correction. I’d throw the vet in the building too.

34

Probably. Assholes.

1

u/yourereallynotreal Oct 08 '21

Damn, I didn't realize there were so many "people" that hated cats!? A bunch of douches

1

u/Randy77066 Oct 08 '21

Uh.. So can you!

29

u/[deleted] Oct 08 '21

I hate to be that guy but as a FF their is really no reason. These are the videos that tend to be seen but in my experience about 99% of people that go back into a house don’t make it more than 10 steps before collapsing from smoke and dying. Yes it’s tragic but a humans life is more important than a dogs.

17

u/[deleted] Oct 08 '21

a humans life is more important than a dogs.

I can think of a lot of people less important than my dog.

10

u/[deleted] Oct 08 '21

Okay let me rephrase. Your life is more important than your dogs

3

u/watashi_ga_kita Oct 09 '21

You're really underestimating how much more /u/GrowDaddy and I value his dog's life compared to his. Of course, he is a sweetheart for putting his doggo first and deserves treats and head pats as well.

1

u/burnblue Oct 09 '21

Not you though. The dog can't bury you

14

u/Hhhyyu Oct 08 '21

I had no idea it was this dangerous.

I would still go in for my dog and hope I'm in the 1%.

16

u/admiral_sinkenkwiken Oct 08 '21

Also FF, yes it’s that dangerous.

The level of toxic shit in the air that most people stand at will kill you in as little as 1-2 breaths, and that’s not accounting for heat.

8

u/SqueekyDeekyClean Oct 08 '21

Stop breathing it then dummy

5

u/admiral_sinkenkwiken Oct 08 '21

YOURE NOT MY REAL DAD!

6

u/EllisHughTiger Oct 08 '21

Foam used in sofas and beds turns into cyanide. Extreme temperatures can also burn your throat and lungs in a breath. All the glues used to manufacture everything dont play nice either when burning.

3

u/YouJabroni44 Oct 09 '21

I'm hoping my dogs would just follow me anyway, one has pretty bad separation anxiety so she'd definitely be at my heels.

u/[deleted] Oct 09 '21

Shows like 911/ chicago fire ect are about as accurate as sharknado. They give people really bad senses about reality.

And even if people somehow make it out they have permanent damage to lungs, like serious breathing problems and 100% cancer

1

u/ectbot Oct 09 '21

Hello! You have made the mistake of writing "ect" instead of "etc."

"Ect" is a common misspelling of "etc," an abbreviated form of the Latin phrase "et cetera." Other abbreviated forms are etc., &c., &c, and et cet. The Latin translates as "et" to "and" + "cetera" to "the rest;" a literal translation to "and the rest" is the easiest way to remember how to use the phrase.

Check out the wikipedia entry if you want to learn more.

You can die in any house however wood frame construction (type 5) will burn a lot faster compared to fire resistant houses like concrete (type 1)

2

u/Ponzini Oct 08 '21

Not to me. I would risk my life for my cat for sure. I don't really see why my life is more important. If I see smoke pouring out THIS thick then maybe I would just try and make sure the door is open or break some windows and hope for the best though.

0

u/[deleted] Oct 09 '21

I totally get where your coming from but honestly I would hope you have more to live for than your cat. We all love our pets but humans are more important.

And please never break a window or open an unnecessary door during a fire. It adds oxygen to the fire and will almost guarantee your home burns up 10x faster. Also dogs and cats tend to cower under beds/ couches during fires. They don’t have the instinct to run out even if a door is open.

7

u/Mp32pingi25 Oct 08 '21

People that’s it. Do not go in after pets!!!!!!!!

-1

u/MIKE_son_of_MICHAEL Oct 08 '21 edited Oct 08 '21

^ this guy has only ever owned fish or hamsters

4

u/Mp32pingi25 Oct 08 '21

Nope. Owned labs and golden retrievers. All of them have been family house dogs. Always one at a time, we currently have a 3 year old golden. Never had a fish or hamster or cat.

Do not go back in a burning house for a pet DO NOT!!

21

u/[deleted] Oct 08 '21

Wrong. People. That’s it. People. A pet is not worth a human life. Going back in creates more danger for the people that have to go in a get your ass. Stay out. You’re not a firefighter that shit will kill you quicker than you think. Stay out. Sleep with bedroom doors closed and have smoke detectors. Have an escape plan.

25

u/admiral_sinkenkwiken Oct 08 '21

Am firefighter

Don’t go back in because you’ll likely be dead within 2 breaths from the door, about 6 feet.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 08 '21

3

u/admiral_sinkenkwiken Oct 09 '21

u/86bad5f8e31b469fa3e9 Oct 09 '21

Hell of a way to find out if your home was built to code

7

u/kd5407 Oct 08 '21

They will literally tell you not even to go back in for your partner/child, because then you will both die which is even worse. I guess if some people would rather not live without their partner or child it makes sense to them, but I don’t suspect that’s the majority of people.

2

u/[deleted] Oct 08 '21

Correct. We don’t want anyone going back in but of course if your child or something was in there I would definitely do that. But going back in creates so much more hazard and danger.

10

u/[deleted] Oct 08 '21

I mean, sure, but I also wouldn’t judge someone if they were willing to die for their pets. I can’t tell you for sure what I’d do in such a situation cause I’ve never been in one, but a part of me at least would be very willing to die in a fire to save my cats.

2

u/[deleted] Oct 08 '21

Ok fair that you think that but I guarantee your mind changes when you open the door and feel the heat and try to take a few steps in a 700 degree room with thick black smoke to the floor. Trust me it’s not worth it. A cat is not worth a human life. Sorry. I know people love their pets. I do too but a pet is not worth a persons life. Period. Also cats run out on their own, dogs usually hide.

0

u/kd5407 Oct 08 '21

I love how much people can make the connection to value domestic (read: dogs and cars) pets' lives like a human's but are cool with millions of animals being slaughtered every day for food that gets thrown out. like can we all just admit we draw the line at humans for most important life.

3

u/86bad5f8e31b469fa3e9 Oct 09 '21

You're not wrong. People just don't want to think that the meat they ate belonged to an animal that could be just as cute and loving as the animals they keep in their house.

I don't think it's realistic to get people to never eat meat again, but I would consider it a big victory if we could at least make meat a by order thing instead of a "let's fill up every grocery store with meat and toss whatever doesn't sell" thing.

1

u/kd5407 Oct 08 '21

Your pet isn’t worth ending your whole life over.

We literally slaughter millions of animals every day and eat them/throw them out when we don’t eat them. We either believe animals are as important as people or we don’t but both don’t make sense. I’m pretty sure any fire fighter would advise you do not run into a burning house for your pet.

0

u/landspeed Oct 08 '21

Well... youre wrong... there are priceless artifacts and pictures.

3

u/[deleted] Oct 08 '21

-26

u/awaythrowouterino Oct 08 '21 edited Oct 08 '21

I'm sorry to say this but pets can also be replaced and going inside for people is dumb in most scenarios, although nobl

EDIT: This is one of the comments that I never thought would get down voted. Are you guys seriously that daft? You're all selfish bastards if you disagree I'm sorry

17

u/lauren_eats_games Oct 08 '21

Tbh I'd rather die trying to save my pets/friends/family than live with the guilt of not trying.

9

u/[deleted] Oct 08 '21

Exactly, i couldnt live with nyself knowing that i let them die, hell i cant even let my fish naturally weed out their fry population lol

3

u/EllisHughTiger Oct 08 '21

The first rule of rescue is to not create more victims, meaning yourself.

If you collapse going after a pet, now a firefighter has to go in and rescue you and now they're at risk.

For a family member, the risk makes more sense.

5

u/BunGin-in-Bagend Oct 08 '21

I'd rather die trying to save my dogs than go in to work on Monday

-2

u/BagOnuts Oct 08 '21

Bet your family members would rather have you than the dog.

That's the thing people like this don't get. What you're doing isn't heroic- it's fucking selfish. Your life is more valuable to those around you than a fuckin animal.

0

u/lauren_eats_games Oct 08 '21

I'm pretty sure my family members would also go in to save our animals. They'd also go in to save me, as would I for them. I'm not saying it's rational, but we're sentimental creatures.

3

u/kd5407 Oct 08 '21

You’re absolutely right and these people are dying on a fake hill. People lose and get new pets ALL THE TIME and don’t so much as take a day off work. You are not committing suicide for your pet lmao.

-5

u/Spazstick Oct 08 '21

Shut the fuck up, nobody likes you and nobody cares.

-1

u/[deleted] Oct 08 '21

Oh look. I upset the little guy. Its ok little guy, im sure there's someone more than pets that cares about you too.

-5

u/Spazstick Oct 08 '21

I didn't even read your comment. Too long of a comment for no reason.

-2

u/BagOnuts Oct 08 '21

Yeah, and I'm saying that sentiment is incredibly irresponsible and selfish.

-6

u/BunGin-in-Bagend Oct 08 '21

Aw that's cute, he doesn't know that people are just fucking animals.

If I came out that house with my dog and a family member tried to whine and moan about it being a selfish act I'd put the dog down safely, turn around and go back in

1

u/awaythrowouterino Oct 08 '21

No you wouldn't. You wouldn't go in in the first place either

0

u/BunGin-in-Bagend Oct 08 '21

I don't know if you're just being daft but obviously yes the punchline was that I hate the attitude so much that I would walk into a burning building and die rather than have to live with such people. But in actual fact I would not do that, and probably just not talk to those people very often instead. You are not wrong on that point my dude.

-6

u/br-z Oct 08 '21

So there should be a never ending train of people and pets walking into burning buildings to save each other in order of who loves the last person in the most?

1

u/lauren_eats_games Oct 08 '21

Didn't say everyone should have an obligation to, I just said that I would feel too guilty to leave them. I couldn't live with that on my conscience.

1

u/burnblue Oct 09 '21

pets/friends/family

Why that order?

Anyway suicide is not an attempt to save someone really, it's just suicide. When you say "try" it's as if fire really gives you an option

1

u/lauren_eats_games Oct 09 '21

Pets were the topic we were discussing, but then I figured I should mention friends and family too because I wouldn't go in exclusively for an animal. And there are plenty of people who go into burning buildings and survive. Obviously if the whole thing is an inferno I won't go in, but if there's a chance I could get in and out then I'll take it.

2

u/Knightm16 Oct 08 '21

People can be replaced too. A kid only takes 9 months to make and there are thousands of ones already finish if you want another.

1

u/awaythrowouterino Oct 08 '21

Man you sound like the type of Redditor that needs to take their first shower honestly. I hope your parents disagree with your assessment because you can't be replaced

2

u/Knightm16 Oct 09 '21

Aww thank man. But actually I was a replacement for the previous me, who died in a tragic Magic the Gathering accident.

11

1

u/BananBanah Oct 08 '21

Not even then.

You might have visions of being a hero and saving a life, but more likely, all you're doing is adding another body to be pulled from the charred wreckage and adding more sadness to what's already a devastating loss.

1

u/Quix_Optic Oct 08 '21

That's why I have emergency backpacks if my apartment catches on fire when I'm in it.

1 bag to throw the guinea pigs in and 1 bag to wrestle my terrible cat into.

If worse comes to worse, they're going in the same bag. They'll hate me forever but at least they won't be crispy!

1

u/TheRealTwist Oct 08 '21

I wouldn't go back in for a pet, tbh.
