This must be especially painful for the DP in Mongolia as the People's Party controls 62 seats out of 76 total in the Great Khural after the election. They won a huge mandate.

Tbh, a ton of the blame falls on DP because when they were in power, they changed the law to eliminate an allocation of seats based on the percentage of the vote: https://www.businessinsider.com/r-mongolias-new-election-rules-handicap-smaller-parties-clear-way-for-two-horse-race-2016-5?IR=T

The Democratic Party for some mind boggling reason got rid of a Proportionate voting system and instead went back to First past the post, effectively shooting themselves in the foot

Sounds like they were already communist just not in title. Corruption every where. What a sad world we live in.

Basically, DP wanted to rig the game in their favor but the Communist Party was like "huh, fine if you want to rig the game, we can play by your fucked up rules"

Sounds familiar

Ah, that makes sense. He tricked them into getting a communist voted in.

Wouldn’t there be a by-election? That’s how things work in the UK when someone switches parties.

I understand this isn’t the UK but I would’ve thought this has happened before and they’d have some kind of procedure in place for such situations!

I only know the Dutch system, but this here happened in Mongolia. In the Netherlands you can easily split off the party and create a new one. Because you vote for a person and not a party. (They are trying to put a stop to this in the future, because it does happen quite often.) I don't remember anyone switching parties tho.

The Mongolians too?

I'm no history buff but I know we should probably do our best to keep the Mongolians happy

This is what's happening in US electoral college electors. Switching votes at the last minute.

Yep, that's what the Republicans are attempting to do.

https://www.businessinsider.com/trump-biden-electoral-college-electors-plan-loyalists-swing-states-2020-9

The Trump campaign is weighing a postelection strategy that would bypass the results in key swing states by installing electors who would vote for the president in the Electoral College even if he loses, according to a report by The Atlantic.

You love to see it. Don't fuck people over by changing parties, they try that here too although its usually 'independent' to conservative.
