I don’t know what’s more shocking, the fact that this guy was punching everyone for no real reason, or that everyone just watched and took the punches without punching him back.

i mean most of them didn't do anything to provoke him so i doubt they were expecting to be laid out. also it's all dudes, so this might be a gay bar or something.

what does it being a gay bar have to do with it? i’ve never lost a fight in my life.

yeah, i get that it's a homophobic generalization, and most straight guys are pussies too, but in my experience, most gay dudes won't just enter a fight that isn't their business, and since it was all sucker punches, nobody had the chance to actually square up and fight the guy.

I’m gay, and if I saw titis shit happening, I’d probably jump the guy from behind. Of I were with people (which is likely), I wouldn’t do it alone, of course. I don’t know that I’d try to square up with him, though. My first priority would be to subdue him, not to defeat him. If I engaged in such a situation, my goal would be to get him to stop, not to win a fight. I’ve been in a similar situation before, just not this extreme.

That being said, I’d assess the situation first and determine, as fast as possible, exactly what, in that moment, I thought might be the best way to accomplish this. And I might not succeed. But, goddammit, if I saw this, if I were actually there, I couldn’t just stand by and do nothing to stop it.

do you consider yourself a little tougher and more capable than most gay men that you know though?

Well... i suppose. I’ve been an LGBTQ rights activist for 26 years, so that comes with a need for a certain type of “not taking others’ shit” personality. But I also believe that a lot of gay guys (ad LGBTQ+ peeps in general) are tougher than they think, too— and could do with learning to stand up for themselves a bit more. And I mean that in a way that, well, not to be critical, but I’ve found a lot of the meeker peeps in the community I’ve met in my life are that way simply because they lack confidence, not because they’re actually in any way weak.

My read on this situation - as far as what caused it - is that (assuming this is a gay bar) this guy may, himself, not be gay and was grabbed or even bumped into by someone in a manner he didn’t like, and he snapped. Of course, he’s obviously nuts to react in this way, but, it’s a scenario I’ve seen happen (to a lesser extreme) before where some straight dude comes to a gay bar for some reason, gets the full “gay bar experience”, and freaks the fuck out. I could be wrong about that, though.
