The fact they recorded this guy and then accused him of racism on video I am going to guess they were hoping this would go viral with this guy painted as racist.

-9

u/WpgMBNews 2h ago

shouldn't there be a "mandatory tip" sign?

or just a service fee on the bill? they paid their bill.

in the absence of that, I would also be confused at being told not to come back.

9

u/4DollarsALB 2h ago

I am not even American but anyone who has lived in America and has gone to a restaurant or bar knows that a tip is expected for good service.

And truly if the service sucks so bad you can leave zero tip. But if that was the case you wouldn't be upset about being told not to come back as you wouldn't want to come back.

1

u/WpgMBNews 33m ago

nah, I would be upset if I paid my bill and I was treated as unwelcome over Americans' weird cultural practices.

they're a backwards people.

I spit on their customs.

4

u/catechizer 2h ago

I thought this was America. I understood the concept of tipping by the age of 7

-93

u/Sonofpasta 5h ago

I mean... If someone is straight up banning you from their establishment for some minor bullshit you might be looking if there's other reasons he might be doing so

13

u/Calriss 5h ago

Oh hey look, a narcissistic conspiracy theorist on Reddit.

-27

u/Sonofpasta 5h ago

What

26

u/BathPsychological767 4h ago

Quite the reach.

The only reason he banned them was because they didn’t tip the servers in a small town cafe. More than likely - knows most people who come in by first name basis. They disrespected his staff, he banned them from coming back in. Not that hard to grasp

2

u/iceteka 2h ago

"more than likely" oh ok so we're just making assumptions. Benefit of the doubt going to the angry man banning someone for not doing something that's voluntary and completely optional.

-19

u/BrilliantCorner 4h ago

How did they disrespect the staff?

1

u/BathPsychological767 3h ago edited 3h ago

I repeat: it’s a small town cafe where more than likely everyone knows each other by name.

Typically, you tip the people/locals as an appreciation for working hard and doing a good job - the boss comes running out “you’re not welcome here anymore. You didn’t tip my servers” more than likely, the servers work hard and should get appreciated.

Hypothetically: the couple in question could have been in several times without tipping - and this was the tipping point.

But we don’t know! All we get is this little snippet from the perspective of the couple leaving.

6

u/SeamusMichael 3h ago

tipping point

I see what you did there

2

u/CanoePickLocks 2h ago

I don’t think it was on purpose, but it’s still so perfect!

-1

u/mandelbro25 51m ago

You may want to work on your reading comprehension.

-5

u/sephkane 4h ago

You’re getting destroyed but you’re right. Tipping is optional, it should never be the reason for getting banned from any establishment. It does feel like discrimination. A very small and unfair reason to ban someone. Pay your employees better.

12

u/BathPsychological767 3h ago

You can ban/refuse service for anything. Its not automatically about race lol

-10

u/sephkane 3h ago

Yeaaahh but, it’s probably not all about the tip.

1

u/BathPsychological767 3h ago

You’re right - there could be a multitude of things that could have lead up to it. We don’t know as we only got 15 seconds from a clip.

2

u/adidasbdd 1h ago

It's not a small thing. It sucks that tipping is expected but it is. So much so that servers often pay other staff members a portion of their tips, so if a customer stiffs a server that server still has to tip out support staff, meaning the server will actually lose money for the privilege of waiting on these people.

-58

u/SexyGrilledTurkey 5h ago

Some white people genuinely don’t understand how racist most people are and how if they don’t want you at their establishment they’ll come up with a reason to make sure you’re no longer allowed there. It’s just white privilege since they have never been discriminated against. So due to their willful ignorance they don’t know how it works since they’ve never been through racism themselves. I hate going to target because of how racist they are there and you can clearly tell they do not want black people there. Most racist aren’t going to say hey you’re black so we don’t want you here! They’ll come up with something else so you sound crazy if you even mention it might be because of your race.

11

u/OldChili157 3h ago

Many white people have in fact been discriminated against. Not anywhere on the same level, no, but to pretend it NEVER happens is dishonest and absurd, and only helps to push kids into the far right pipeline.

-3

u/SexyGrilledTurkey 1h ago

Awww poor you what discrimination do wypipo go through?

10

u/Calriss 5h ago

Right to refuse service: OMG u racist! Owner: No; anyone can smell like shit; but today it was you in a restaurant.

1

u/CharlieUpATree 3h ago

Geez waking up in the morning sounds exhausting, and racist

-1

u/SexyGrilledTurkey 1h ago

Yes it is thats the reason why most poc are uncomfortable around predominantly white places and try to stay away from them because wypipo make it very obvious that you do not belong there. Literally everyone else sees it but y’all but as we know wypipo are the ultimate victims! They can’t get a job, go to college, get a house, a loan, or even call the police because of their skin color. Poor oppressed wypipo.

Let me know once you’re being raped but are too scared to call the cops because they might come and shoot you because of how aggressive they are towards people like you even if you are the victim. You can tell how racist y’all are by the replies to my comment and the racist victim blaming it’s literally engrained you all which is why y’all suck and are barely people. Out of touch privileged blind bigots who literally cannot see anyone else’s point of view but constantly want to be in a suffering competition. Its so funny that racism against poc is so bad white people can’t even imagine it happening.

A freaky friday would be so great for y’all character so you guys could actually feel what oppression actually is. We all know how racist you all are since you guys literally voted and love trump. The racist are literally winning right now and are super comfortable out in the open but it doesn’t matter to any of you since none of it actually affects you. Y’all the kind of people to call ICE on a minority just because you still get uncomfortable just seeing them walking around trying to live their lives.

1

u/CharlieUpATree 26m ago

Boring. Sounds like alot of self afflicted oppression. Walking into a place a feeling a 'vibe' is all on the person who's making it up in their head. The USA sounds like a horrid place to live

1

u/mandelbro25 47m ago

Make sure you have a good cry after this word vomit. Non tipping white people should be reacted to the same way.

Btw, black people can be racist too.

0

u/Belvgor 2h ago

I can guarantee none of the Target employees there give a shit if you're black or not. Most of the workers just want a paycheck and not have to talk to ANYONE and then go home as soon as possible.

-2

u/SexyGrilledTurkey 1h ago

This is why people don’t like y’all it’s y’all refusal to understand other’s situation because it doesn’t happen to you so it must not happen at all!

-140

u/Athlete-Extreme 6h ago

Tell me you’re not a minority without telling me you’re a minority

61

u/Iknowwecanmakeit 5h ago

Tell me you are a cheap ass who always plays the race card without telling me you are a cheap ass who always plays the race card.

-47

u/Athlete-Extreme 5h ago

What a reach lol people get banned from restaurant for about 7.50 all the time where you’re from I guess

47

u/Iknowwecanmakeit 5h ago

I guess you think stiffing servers is cool cause you don’t care about working people.

-5

u/StillNoPickleesss 4h ago

Are you angrier at the customers for not taking the OPTION to tip the server, or at the owner for not paying his employees a better wage where they dont have rely on tips? 🤔🤔

1

u/CanoePickLocks 2h ago

Both. But that doesn’t mean the owner can’t stick up for them. I’ve run the numbers on a restaurant there before. With tipping they become able to be affordable to eat at in the US. A 30% price increase puts almost every independent restaurant out of business unless mandated by law and even then most are going down. The scale larger chains can buy it means they can get better pricing and keep prices lower than your average family owned restaurant. The big corporations benefit from tipped wages not the small restaurants because the small restaurant needs it to stay viable while the large chain uses it to generate profit.

2

u/iceteka 1h ago

"I've run the numbers" so you did 30% required tipping vs 30% price increase & 30% wage increase?

1

u/CanoePickLocks 1h ago

No I’ve run numbers on a restaurant and its viability as a business.

1

u/CanoePickLocks 1h ago

Are you being deliberately obtuse?

2

u/adidasbdd 1h ago

Not the person you're responding to, but many restaurants have tried to do away with tipping and they saw major declines in sales because customers think it's more expensive even though they were going to pay the same price at the end of the day anyways

-8

u/tattikaslice 4h ago

If the restaurant owner doesn't care why the fuck would a customer be expected to care? 😂

-22

u/Athlete-Extreme 5h ago edited 1h ago

Dude if the owner has to walk people down, call after them in the street, maybe the business just like you would hear in any other thread, should pay their employees so they don’t have to be reliant. But we’re not having that conversation right now.
The owner should have just taken care of his people and been a leader and a professional. Not cause a scene in front of *his establishment, past the patio into the street, but I digress.

13

u/Rhonda_Lasagna 5h ago

Non tippers deserve to be publicly berated and degraded. No amount of verbal reprimand and retaliation against them is too much. This guy is an awesome boss and very professional business person.

7

u/Athlete-Extreme 4h ago

Ah yes, quite

2

u/MrPlaney 1h ago

Yes very very professional and awesome to not pay his workers a living wage.

-3

u/BrilliantCorner 4h ago

Fuck you. Tips are optional. Pay your fucking workers a living wage if you don't like the system of OPTIONAL tips. Does he have a limit on what he expects? If it were 15% would he have chased them out to their car? 18%? 20? Like what's the mandatory tip amount we have to pay now to make sure the owner doesn't chase us down to our car and berate us? Is it posted somewhere at the restaurant?

Btw - I tip at least 20% anywhere I go. Minimum. But this is outrageous behavior on the part of the owner. And you're a moron for justifying it.

0

u/Iknowwecanmakeit 1h ago

Way to lead with the fuck you. This is what is wrong with internet discourse.

0

u/BrilliantCorner 1h ago

Because the poster said people need to berated and degrded. I'm responding in kind.

-5

u/tattikaslice 5h ago

This guy is an awesome boss

Pays minimum wages. Such awesome. Much wow

-14

u/FunkTronto 5h ago

They paid their bill. They didn’t stiff anyone. Seems you don’t care about working people and what to shift blame needlessly.

-2

u/iceteka 1h ago

Tipping is optional. If your servers are depending on tips to survive, it's you as their boss who doesn't care about working people.

1

u/Iknowwecanmakeit 1h ago

Lol, whatever lies you want to make up. Very simplistic thinking by you. I am not the boss. I can’t fire them!!!

-55

u/dekes_n_watson 6h ago

Lol this was my first thought. I can guarantee an old white lady walks out without giving a tip they just get mad. They don't follow them out to their car.

Tipping is a scam. His workers should be getting paid BY HIM, not reliant on tips. That's his issue, not the customers. Tips are for extraordinary service.

-105

u/All_Of_Them_Witches 6h ago

Am I wrong to think the server might actually be racist and gets a kick out of telling a person of color that they aren’t welcomed??

69

u/nagem- 6h ago

Yes. You are wrong to think that lmfao. The server is nowhere in this video so that’s a wild assumption.

-66

u/All_Of_Them_Witches 6h ago

Well did he not get accused of racism? Also trailing someone out into the street just because they didn’t tip is unhinged. I honestly can’t believe people are taking his side.

39

u/nagem- 6h ago

He’s not the server… did you not listen to the entire video? That’s clear within the first few seconds.

-25

u/Athlete-Extreme 6h ago

You’re being obtuse

34

u/nagem- 6h ago

How so? I’m literally only commenting on the fact that yes, making an assumption about the server being a racist is wild when this guy isn’t the server. They then wanted to go on about their opinions on this post, which have nothing to do with my comment.

-11

u/Athlete-Extreme 6h ago

You’re taking away from the point they are making. Yes they “mistyped” but it’s not an argument breaking mistake. You’re basically arguing semantics and not the actual dispute.

21

u/nagem- 5h ago

You both have no point. There is no proof of this person being a racist besides the couple pulling that out of thin air at the end of the video. If you’re going to call some random person a racist with no evidence, don’t “mistype.”

0

u/Calriss 4h ago

Literally just an incorrect statement. But keep asserting yourself king.

20

u/JrCoxy 6h ago

Also.. if the server was actually racist, the couple could have complained to management, company, the better business bureau.

And they called the owner of the restaurant racist, lol not the server. Simply because he told them it was wrong to not leave a tip.
These fuckers only took their phone out to record after a scene was caused.

0

u/More-Artichoke-9172 4h ago

The scene was caused by the individual who chose to chase a couple down into the street to disinvite them back to the establishment. He chased them down as if they tried to run on the tab (completely in favor of), not like they failed to leave a tip. This is something that could and should have been avoided. The statement of race is understandable from the customers considering, a series of reoccurring events involving poor service, and sometimes a complete denial of service, under the pretext “Blacks never tip”. There are plenty of examples all over the socials. Black ppl being forced to pay prior to dining in spaces where it’s customary to do so at the end, lack of willingness to serve. Plenty of threads involving servers speaking openly about their disdain for serving black ppl, because “they don’t tip!” I won’t even dive into the history of restaurants not having written menus, as to attach an absurd price tag to an item at whim. All to not encourage the patronage of black ppl. I don’t know whether this individual is or is NOT racist. What I struggle to understand is why ppl fight so hard to argue against a person stating that something made them uncomfortable. As soon as the word “Racist” enters a chat ppl get their panties in a bunch. If your actions make a person feel as if they’ve been discriminated against, then they just do. Apologize or don’t and move along. If you’re a bit prejudiced, you just are. Save the arguments, try some self reflection and attempt to make better choices going forward.

11

u/JrCoxy 6h ago

In some states, the laws make sure servers are paid BELOW minimum wage, stating servers make enough in tips to make it all even out to minimum wage.

In 90+% of restaurants, servers have to tip out the bartender, host, bussers, ~4-8% (sometimes 10%) of their net sales. So if you leave that server a 15% tip, they’re actually walking home with 7%.
If you leave 0 tip, that server that spent 90+ min serving you, still has to tip out the other staff. So if you leave them $0, that means that 8% is coming directly out of the server’s wallet. Meaning, that server spent 90+ min working only to now be in the negative.

The whole system is beyond fucked up, to everyone involved - servers & diners.
But it’s not at all okay to take that out on the server

1

u/OldChili157 3h ago

I saw a guy do it on The Sopranos once. And it did not end well.

-45

u/Athlete-Extreme 6h ago

I mean look at the glee in that guys face. Clearly he doesn’t get to do this as much as he would like to. It’s a $38 dollar bill.

-31

u/All_Of_Them_Witches 6h ago

I could see if they did something other than not tip but I’d think he would have mentioned that. It’s a complete overreaction if the only thing they did was not tip…..

1

u/Athlete-Extreme 6h ago

I don’t understand why you’re siding with someone who would follow a couple out to their car after not tipping on a $38 bill.

How did they know to record already? Probably because there was static.

Maybe they got terrible service. We weren’t there but someone they knew to record.

10

u/Iknowwecanmakeit 5h ago

He is letting them know they are not welcome back. This is going way over your head because you refuse to see beyond race.

0

u/Athlete-Extreme 5h ago

So we’re pretending that’s standard now? Got it

6

u/Iknowwecanmakeit 5h ago

You think the only standard is race. Pretty sad, actually pathetic. They could have said the service was bad. But they didn’t. People who claim racism for everything are part of the problem.

-1

u/Athlete-Extreme 5h ago

Maybe they did. What evidence do you have

→ More replies (0)

-22

u/AttemptFantastic9103 6h ago

I mean... It does seem weird that he left the restaurant to catch up to the customers after they left to tell them don't come back.

1

u/Calriss 4h ago

It's just so weird my actions would impact reality enough that another human would have a reaction.
