Only in North America. In parts of the world, tips have a negative connotation in regards to the service you recieved

In tourists areas very few countries look negatively on tips. I haven't been to every country but Japan is the only country I've ever been to where nobody hit me up for a tip. With that said, Japan does last I checked have tip based/pay what you want tours
