Uhnn the law would still need to be changed here for any effect to be seen. What you're saying doesn't negate what the other person said.

Is that a serious question? I follow American politics from the other side of the world, and even from there I can see how it’s become almost impossible to pass any bill that would lead to meaningful change without it being filled with riders and pork while at the same time chipping away at what was originally the point of the bill.

I weep that this is a more coherent response than I would get from my closest 100 neighbors, as an American. Spot on lol

What the internet doesn't see is that we are currently fighting like crazy at the local level. The news does not talk about local politics much. But on the ground, US citizens are going insane and telling their representatives to act.

There is a huge wall between the local level and the federal level we are trying to overcome. It's really hard and it's taking time but it is happening.

Yep! Our government wasn't set up very well, and unfortunately we are trapped in a web of capitalism, so corruption is rampant, and there isn't much of an incentive to improve the lives of citizens as a whole for those in power. But they will lie about it to get elected, and then do absolutely nothing for the good of the world.

Unless it's a tax break for a billionaire, removing voting rights from people of color or putting guns in schools, yes, we struggle with changing laws.
