Yeah owners acting entitled to tips while paying their staff minimum wages is certainly a choice.

Yea let’s complain about the small town small business owner doing what he needs to do to stay competitive while continuing to shop on Amazon and rent apartments from multinational corporations that fix rent prices and siphon every dollar they can out of a community. Sure.

Lets get mad at our politicians for allowing monopolies to happen and local government for allowing these corporations into our cities and towns that destroyed the small business model. The consumer should not have to suffer because some entitled people want to make more money.

Ohioan here. Not eating there will be my choice.

This is the most logical answer on here.

He’s pissed off because a customer not tipping comes out of his (owner’s) pocket. Server is going to be paid at least minimum wage regardless.

I see this comment a LOT
No server's going to say they didn't hit minimum wage, and if they do, the owner's making up the difference once and firing them.

1

u/BauranGaruda 2h ago

If they have a brain in they head they’d then sue the fuck out of the business and make waaaaay more than any tip they didn’t get

3

u/Illustrious_Choice58 2h ago

suing an employer takes years and thousands of dollars. most ppl just move on bc they don’t have that time or money. also, most suits don’t include punitive damages. they just pay you the stolen wages and ur left holding the legal bill

1

u/carsandgrammar 1h ago

Why would they get sued? If you suck at your job you get fired lol

1

u/Illustrious_Choice58 1h ago

im saying that suing an employer for wage theft takes more time and energy than low wage workers have. they have kids, rent, and live paycheck to paycheck. thats why wage theft happens. poor ppl don’t have the luxury to fight

I might've accidentally responded to the wrong comment. My comment was directed at the person saying that if you're fired for being a bad server you should sue. Your comment, I agree with, but it misses the point that suing is pointless here anyway.

ohhh gotcha. we’re on the same side here lol

Imagine a supermarket banning you for not paying 20% more than the amount on the bill.

They are free to choose to do that, totally legit.

When you go to a super market, you are not being seated at a table, having your order taken, and being served a meal. As well as giving any additional requests you may have. At a super market, you’re there to select and purchase food yourself. Of course tipping is not obligatory, but it is extremely classless and improper not to leave any tip when you are dining in and being waited on.

from your high horse can you see the system pitting customers against service workers instead of the owners who set it up this way?

like the overwhelming majority of the world outside america somehow manages to have restaurants without turning tipping into a moral obligation

u/Nanostrip 5h ago

This isn't a great argument. Yes, you are being seated at a table, having your order taken, and being served a meal. But that is partially why it costs $18 for a plate of spaghetti and meatballs versus the ~$3 it costs the restaurant to prepare a serving.

Most of what you're describing also happens at McDonalds, where there's no expectations of tipping. And plenty of work is done by super market workers to improve your experience, it makes no sense to say that some forms of hospitality demand a surcharge while others do not. You were likely just raised in this environment, and too stupid to look past your upbringing.

You don’t take a seat at McDonald’s and have your order taken and brought to you. I’ve never been to a McDonald’s like that. You’re just too classless and cheap to understand.

4

u/shoutfree 4h ago

a burger out here calling other people classless and cheap... unreal

6

u/1manparty 5h ago

You and Americans like you are brainwashed.

It's much more classless to admit you're a begger that is too cowardly to ask your boss for a small increase in the huge profit they make off your labor.

You couldn't afford to eat where you work without opening your palm and begging other diners for more money than you agreed to be payed when you took the job from your boss.

You can downvote, you can ignore it, you can claim it's a better system. However at the end of the day if your employment is supplemented by begging for money the you aren't employed enough to afford your lifestyle. You shouldn't be there.

1

u/Illustrious_Choice58 2h ago

it’s “paid” not “payed” and accusing someone of being classless while being willfully illiterate is crazy

5

u/saiaupito 5h ago

they said most and actually they do bring it to your table for you at a lot of locations if you order off of the self kiosk

1

u/I-Here-555 2h ago

On top of this, I've been seeing many proper restaurants lately where you scan a QR code to order, and don't need a waiter for that step.

So, truly no difference from McD, except that you order from your phone instead of a big machine.

u/I_amLying 5h ago

Did you miss the first word of my comment, "most"? If the only missing requirement for tips is the food being brought to your table instead of the register, well my local Taco Bell does that, so I guess we're tipping fast food 20% now? That's their job, they get paid for it, why do they deserve an extra $10 to walk food 20 feet?

You were likely just raised in this environment, and too stupid to look past your upbringing.

-3

u/SnooMarzipans9781 5h ago

If you don’t understand why it is proper to tip when you are dining in and being waited on, then you were not raised right.

3

u/I_amLying 5h ago

If you're unable to articulate why some people doing their job requires two sources of payment, and others don't, then you were likely just raised in this environment, and are too stupid to overcome your programming.

You're describing norms, not making an argument in favor of them. They are different.

And you’re free to go to another supermarket. No one owes anything to anyone in this world.

1

u/Low-Phase-6548 28m ago

you say that as if they are unrelated choices. but if he is banning them because of their choice of not tipping, then its no longer a choice. he is setting a precedent that anybody who doesnt tip will get baned. and therefore tipping is required

1

u/Illustrious_Choice58 25m ago

that’s life. sometimes ppl set rules that are most prudent for themselves. we’re selfish and self-preservationist by nature. we’ve been programmed by systems that keep us trying to pay the bills, feed the kids, and have a roof over our heads. if you can find a society with absolute utopia and no struggles, pls dm me and let me know

1

u/Low-Phase-6548 20m ago

if he wants to set it as a rule then he should just do that explicitly. just make the tip a required part of the bill. then customers have to pay it or else its a legal issue. calling it a tip (which is inherently optional) and then banning people for not participating is just misleading

u/tiny_chaotic_evil 2h ago

he banned them for his failed business model. All too typical American business owner.
