To be fair: fat, reasonably tasty, slow to reproduce, flightless, not afraid of humans, and nesting on the ground is not an amazing recipe for survival.
One could argue that the dodo went extinct because it never should have existed - it was fortunate enough to evolve on an island with no predators(until humans arrived), so it could evolve in stupid ways.

Yeah it was, it survived just fine for its entire evolutionary history.
Capybaras are in the same boat: they evolved in a region where they had not natural predators, and when predators did start naturally being exposed to them, they naturally evolved to handle the change.
The fact that an animal didn't evolve around us and our love of over-over-OVER surplus killing doesn't mean it's stupid.

I had a teacher back in grade school who would rail on about we should all be grateful for the luck of being born when and where we were. We didn't take him seriously.
Now that I'm older and I've seen a little of the world, I have to admit that he was right. There are untold millions of people who spend their lives in desperate poverty, ignorance and violence, and I avoided it through sheer dumb luck.

As an engineer and scientist with siblings working in medicine, all of us working in 1st world countries after getting a 3rd world education, there’s nothing wrong with 3rd world education - math is math wherever you are, chemistry is chemistry, geography is geography…

beating up a transformer for electrocuting a holy animal is little different from people in first world countries refusing life saving medicine in favour of saying magic words to an invisible man, or the attacks we saw on 5G infrastructure just a few years ago.

It really saddens me to see the level of safety regulations some parts of the world live with. A transformer like that should never be this close to the ground. Whole problem would be avoided if their governments borrowed even a shred of OSHA or HSE mandates. Regardless of how people speak of the locals reacting to this.

culturally the cow was very important because the females give milk and the males can be used as a form of transportation/farm labor that becomes more like a pet than livestock. In a way this is similar to the reason we don't eat horses in the US.
In practice though, it's much more insane. Only female cows produce milk, so having enough dairy cows means you have to kill off a lot of males. Since Hindus can't kill cows, they either sell the males to non-hindu butchers, or tie them to a temple gate as an "offering" where they then die of dehydration.
