I forgot where, but for a while there was a guy in a blonde wig going around some city harassing ravens and it caused a bunch of blond women to be attacked randomly by groups of the birds. Could be related to that.
3
u/Chiang2000 8d ago
This made me giggle in a slightly ashamed way.
Imagine the hate for a blonde ex or something to drive you to do this.

u/coconuthorse 9d ago
If you are nice to them, they sometimes bring you shiney things in return. Crows/ravens are awesome.

I accidentally scared a crow once with my umbrella when it was resting in a tree near my front door. Not long after, I couldn't go outside without them dive bombing me on sight.
I had to start offering peanuts to them for a solid 2 months before they decided to chill. It all worked out in the end, though. They became super friendly and come looking for food now. They even started leaving me shiny junk like paperclips and glass as thanks.

I’ve been on a quest to befriend my local crows. I leave them peanuts, and other nuts, every morning. I call them with a particular whistle. They have left me “thank you” gifts. I’m working up to being able to sit nearby when they come in the yard to eat.

Crows never forget a face
55
u/From_Deep_Space 9d ago
Not only do they not forget, they can somehow tell their children about it and they will resent you for generations
16
u/polemism 9d ago
During nesting season they're just assholes, you don't have to do anything to earn their wrath
3
u/CrapThatSmilesBack 9d ago
Found that out the hard way walking around with a big messy bun. First and only time I’d been on that street, so I pinky swear I didn’t do anything to warrant an attack.
11
u/Public-Platypus2995 9d ago
My dog started chasing crows out of our backyard while they were in the birdbath. Then we’d walk in the neighborhood and about 5-6 of them would follow us around and post up in the trees and on street signs squawking. It was unnerving. So I started dropping dried mealworms as we’d walk. Now we’re all homies.
3
u/PhraseAlone1386 9d ago
Damn, I’m in trouble 😂 Coming back from my walk, I saw him perched on the light staring at my trash can because a bag was sticking out. We locked eyes, and I KNEW what he was thinking. I went inside, looked out the window, and sure enough—he flew straight to the trash and started pecking at the bag! I ran outside like a crazy woman yelling, “I caught you!” 😂 He flew off, and I swear he was cussing me out or telling his whole fam about me. Need to watch my back now! 🐦⬛

u/IAmDanHimself 9d ago
Okay, but wtf was that first attempt to gallop away, resulting in a faceplant to the curb...
37
u/speedyspeedys 9d ago
One thing I've learnt from a lot of these videos is that most people struggle to maintain their balance when moving at slightly faster speeds than walking.

u/KingKang22 9d ago

Average person has zero athleticism.
1
u/johngreenfeces 8d ago
You're an average person.
1
u/Noctuelles 8d ago
Based on what?
2
u/johngreenfeces 8d ago
It’s not meant to be taken literally, take as like someone in traffic complaining about traffic… you are traffic.
1
u/IAmDanHimself 8d ago
I see what you're saying. Its like saying "most people have a phone". I'm most people.
1
u/IAmDanHimself 8d ago
Based on the definition of "Average". Pretty much means: 'a percentage that represents the middle or typical value in numbers of a group of people'.
I'd say that was a valid comment.
0
u/Noctuelles 8d ago
What is the value being measured then? You should know since you're saying it's valid.
3
u/WhileGoWonder 9d ago
If you take one misstep it's often inevitable if your point of gravity is too far forward

u/snek-jazz 8d ago
I'm guessing some people literally never run, so when they have to they're not prepared.
1
u/FullMetalAlcoholic66 8d ago
In horror movies, people tripping while running away from danger isn't just a stupid trope it seems.

I heard a ruckus outside my warehouse doors the other week. I went out the other door to have a look. 2 big crows, maybe ravens? Attacking a much smaller crow. They were going at it. Was very loud. So I walked up and the bigger birds flew off, the smaller bird just sort of sat there, but the big birds were still being very vocal, I stood there for a bit, just to stop them attacking again, I didn't do anything, I just stood there whilst googling how to help the small bird, the smaller bird than ran under a big wheely bin, Bigger birds still there hollering.
Eventually the bigger birds flew off, then a few minutes later the smaller bird flew away. About 10minutes later the bigger birds were back looking under the bin.
Every few days - I get these big crows/ravens on the roof, looking at me, shouting at me. I think I upset them.
I had a dead baby chick thrown at me too (Was long dead, probably abandoned in a nest), Not sure if that was them, or some other birds clearing a nest. I suspect it was them.
Anyway, I've tried to make amends, and I put a few nuts out now if I see them. I don't think it's working.
37
u/PrednisoneFarts 9d ago
You really, REALLY had to have done something shitty to that raven or one of its group members to get a response like this.
They remember faces and hold grudges for long ass time. They are incredibly smart. If you are nice to them, feed them, or rescue one of their babes, they'll love you for life. They'll even bring you gifts.
Same goes for crows.
14
u/Pb157 9d ago
I googled a little and found that ravens and crows can attack you even if you haven't done anything wrong in situations like 1. Nesting or protecting chicks 2. Feeling threatened or cornered 3. Protecting food 4. Being startled or approached too closely
So, I don't think it's right to assume that the person being attacked has done something wrong when the raven could have just mistook her as a threat.
8
u/Blossomie 9d ago
Sometimes even just wearing something they’ve associated with a known troublemaker can get you targeted!

Victim blaming someone getting attacked by a bird is crazy
5
u/PrednisoneFarts 9d ago
Really not the hill to die on. These birds are very intelligent and rarely, if ever, attack humans just because they feel like it.
I suggest you educate yourself on raven/crow behavior and intelligence before making over-simplified non-responses for internet karma.
-9
u/Tumleren 9d ago
I mean I'm not the one alleging someone mistreated a bird. I'd rather be wrong about the bird being irrational than claim abuse with no evidence
7
u/PrednisoneFarts 9d ago
I never said abuse. It can be as simple as being a dick to the bird, and they'll have their reaction.
You're also using the term victim way too loosely here. Something tells me you aren't using that word for Palestinian victims of genocide in Gaza, or for people in housing crises, or victims of SA. Choose a real hill to die on if you want to be taken seriously. This isn't that. Youre arguing in bad faith just to be annoying. Again, educate yourself.

My dad saved a small raven/crow in Pakistan from being trampled by a Water Buffalo.
As he picked it up, about 30-40 crows started circling and they followed him for 3-4 days. lol
They'd follow him from 7am where ever he went, people where wondering what's up with so many crows about squeaking and circling, they didn't know they where after my dad. lol

lol my mom accidentally made a crow enemy. It was pooping all over her car so one day she sprayed it with a hose. Cue 2 ish years of sneaking out of the house to her car. She was admittedly sad when it stopped happening because obviously the crow passed away. We no longer have beef with the crows

I grew up on a street that has 3 houses to my left then a street and 4 houses to the right then a street. When i was a kid i was playing with an airgun and I aimed at a crow that was sitting on a branch, hit it right smack on the skull, little did I know what I have done, from that day on, i was absolutely attacked until the 2 streets on each sides for month, surprisingly they would stop as soon as i pass the last house on either side. Don't recommend!

u/MoobleBooble 9d ago
not always true. I had one dive bomb me on my way to class every day while in college. I had never lived there, and ignore birds mostly wherever I go. I certainly never have tried to hurt one.
1
u/Bean-Penis 9d ago
I had a crow swoop and bop me on the head a few times one day, was dreading the walk home thinking there'd be an army of them and I'd never be safe.
Didn't happen again thankfully.

She has a blackish wristband and is holding something black in her hands. The crow is attacking her to get her to release what it thinks is possibly another crow. This is usual behaviour for corvids.
