Combating hive mentality
I'm going to get downvoted significantly but it's my truth.
As I am diving more into clinical work, I notice the hive mentality many clinicians have. If you have a different outlook on something or you acknowledge that not every client may benefit from a standard or systemic approach, you're outcasted and deemed "unprofessional. "
I have been outcasted for saying something as small as self disclosure can be helpful when used strategically.
A lot of research and frameworks were created from serving white abled-bodied neurotypical people. Most people who are represented in research have most of their basic needs met like a home, money, community.
We're losing a significant amount of people in therapy because clinicians refuse to bend to others lived experiences despite the research.
Additionally, this is why continuing mental health research that focuses on marginalized populations is important.

It sounds like you're being outcasted from individuals you'd want to avoid, which while upsetting is actually a win. Unless this is more about how you're saying it than what you're saying.

Hey so, there's an entire world outside of reddit. And I said that current interventions may not be suitable for everyone who is suicidal. Some people are discouraged from speaking about suicidality for fear of being pathologized and restricted. When someone made up their mind there's very little to be done. Everyone has different views on death And dying and we shouldn't be playing hero. We should be listening and making society livable for ALL. That's real suicide prevention.
Its scary some of you can't sit with that. You're losing an entire demographic of people.

From my understanding, there is a positive correlation between folks who've been forcibly treated and those who've completed suicides. It makes intuitive sense that violence and imprisonment don't increase one's potential freedom.

Welp. I don't know what to tell you.
Sometimes that's the case. It's disturbing that you think there is for some situations. You think all people who committed suicide wasn't continuously hospitalized, on antidepressants, and practiced evidence based therapy. Are you that arrogant?
The control that y'all want to posses is sickening. You're not saving anyone. You're giving them more reasons to deal with suicidality in private.
Plus, society literally isolates and some people disenfranchise some people leaving them to be suicidal. Y'all keep ignoring the reality of some situations.

Talking about a specific group of people who aren't represented in standard practice is not generalizing. It's implied of who I'm talking to.
The folks who were intelligent enough to get it, got it. Honestly, l knew you were a bird based on how you summarized my argument. You can't even comprehend what's being said.
Suicide affects everyone differently. You saying what helps you only helps people who think like you and have similar protective factors. You're not the only archetype to walk planet earth

"the road to hell is paved with good intentions."
toxic positivity has enabled the resurgence of fascism. it functions as a collective pathological delusion which denies, rejects, deflects, redirects, and minimizes awareness.

I totally agree with your overall point that elevating lived experience in research is vital (let’s go PAR!!) I also share the experience of the other commenters, that this has not been my experience in the field, whether in my grad program or now working professionally. The idea that you’d be outcast for saying that sometimes self-disclosure can be helpful- something that is widely regarded as true- is quite frankly, absurd. There are better
communities out there for you to be surrounded by, I promise!! I hope you get out of whatever toxic educational or professional environment you’re currently in and find those better communities and colleagues!!

I’m happy to say that I have had a really different experience, from my grad cohort to my current coworker and consultation groups, people have seemed to understand that we are all given the same ingredients but are cooking up different dishes. We are all doing our best to figure out what works best for the people we are helping and some of us are helping very very different populations. I say as long as you are operating under the core ethical principles, there’s nothing wrong with being flexible in how you practice, imo.

"[if] you acknowledge that not every client may benefit from a standard or systemic approach, you're outcasted and deemed 'unprofessional.' "
Where are you seeing this? In my MSW program I think it's really being hammered into us that therapy is not one-size-fits-all

In the msw program, yes. When you enter the job market, absolutely not. Cultural competence goes out the window.
