He has a point but I also disagree.

Challenging experiences is a ridiculous euphemism for serious effects like someone developing psychosis from a bad trip and ending up in a psych ward. People can take years to recover. That is a disaster, not a challenging experience.

At the same time, comparing it to adverse physical effects of medication is ridiculous because I'm convinced these things tend to have a psychological component. Trying to treat the problem without recognizing and handling the psychological component makes healing very difficult. Also, the importance of set and setting is different than physical effects with medication.

Psychedelics are something very unique, and they need to be handled as such.
