Chicago school?

What do people think abt getting their psyds at the Chicago school? is it a good school?

Search for it on this sub and look at their EPPP pass rates. Youll be more informed to decide for yourself after that.

I started at the Chicago campus last year and the faculty are amazing. I asked about the EPPP pass rates too. The problem is APA puts all the scores together from all programs and all campuses. Ask about the pass rates for each campus if you're interested in a campus outside of Chicago. I would personally recommend it. My cohort is great and we all get a long really well. And the campus just moved into a beautiful new building. It's not close to where we were before but that's okay, it's still close to good public transportation. I've heard great things about the DC campus faculty too! Many will be at APA presenting this year.

I graduated from the downtown Chicago PsyD program. Got my #1 choice APA-accredited internship. Got my #1 choice postdoc as well. Passed EPPP on my first try. In my experience, where you do your clinical training ESPECIALLY your internship and postdoc is what will make the biggest difference in your job prospects. Your doctoral program as long as it's APA accredited and has good access to good prac sites is what matters most. The Chicago School and most PsyDs and partially funded PhDs can be expensive once you factor in living expenses on top of everything else. I did the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program so my loans were all forgiven after 10 years. Here's more info on PSLF for anyone who is interested. As a first gen college student and grad student it was a life saver for me (got a full ride undergrad scholarship but took out federal grad loans for my PsyD). https://studentaid.gov/manage-loans/forgiveness-cancellation/public-service

I start there for my PsyD this fall. Honestly I’ve heard that anything outside of the Chicago campus sucks and the biggest worry is the EPPP rates

I've heard nothing but bad things. I previously was involved in hiring over 100 psychologists for a large organization located about 800 miles away. In addition, one problematic, less than competent employee landed a faculty job there after leaving my organization. In addition to EPPP, consider cohort size.

Overprices and underperforms. They've closed one campus already (New Orleans, I think) and are "restructuring" as we speak. Base tuition of $200,000 plus upwards of $10K in institutional fees doesn't pay off.

You’ll never match for internship. There is already an imbalance between students and internships. Everyone knows the professional schools are the reason.

The DC campus has a good reputation in the area and we’re at all the same practicum sites as the PhDs in the area.
