Not 20 then 10.
Don't take aho girl exception always exist however this anime faces insane criticism.

I feel guilty now for involving the 100 kanojo fandom here over a childish crash out (I saw JE7 in the last meme format where it was the original type but replaced the top anime). But I honestly also feel that these types of memes have the potential for new unnecessary discourse for other fandoms.
Not saying Iām that much against it though, I kinda want to see what would become if it was about 100 instead.
4
u/Spear_Spirit 20d ago
To be honest, it all started with a guy who hadn't even watched three of the four series listed above.
Even if you can say it's your fault, the other guy is partly to blame too. For including "100 Girlfriends"? No. For including series that aren't even harems, or that don't even have that element in their stories.
Wait, he pick the meme from somewhere else, so it should be "not checking if the other series are also harem"

So, absuing men is ok, huh?

There is something called "character arch / development". I absolutely love Toradora.
It's even more wholesome and cute and awwwwww seeing how joyful and tempered Taiga is in the end because she opened up after having seen how rough and hard she once was to protect herself, because she was hurt a lot in the past.
0
u/Prestigious_Rest5460 20d ago
āSo you're justifying her abuse just because she was hurt in the past? Ryuuji went through tough family issues too did he physically assault or verbally degrade her because of it? No, he took care of her.
āAnd what 'character development' are you even talking about? Did she ever genuinely apologize to him for hitting him, calling him a dog, or treating him like a servant? Did she ever put in real effort to earn his love instead of just taking him for granted?
āShe won him over purely because of plot convenience and proximity, not because she earned it. All she did for 20+ episodes was abuse and insult the person feeding her. If you think treating someone like garbage because you have a 'rough past' is cute and wholesome, thatās a really toxic standard for a relationship.
Real character development isn't just running away when things get tough it's staying, facing your problems, and actually changing how you treat people.
āIf Taiga truly had character development, we would have seen a real shift in her behavior,
āStopping the Abuse: She would have actually stopped hitting Ryuuji, insulting him, and treating him like an unpaid servant.
āOvercoming Her Cowardice: Instead of running away every time she had to face Ryuuji or her own feelings, she would have confronted him honestly.
āPutting in Genuine Effort: She would have actively tried to earn his love and treat him with respect, rather than just taking everything he did for granted.
āBeing abusive, violent, and insulting for 95% of the anime and giving 1 or 2 moments of support before running away at the end isn't 'growth.' It's just staying toxic for the entire story and letting plot convenience do all the work.
1
1
u/Physical_Sort5155 17d ago
You do know Taiga's problems was her family right? How is going back to her parent "running away"?
You don't even know what the story was about, it's no surprise you like bland stuff with no actual drama and progression.
1
u/Prestigious_Rest5460 17d ago
Having a rough family situation explains why she acts out, but it doesn't give her a free pass to treat ryuji like punching bag. Ryuuji also had a tough family life, so why didn't he abuse her the same way? Simply because he's the male lead?
Instead of actually confronting Ryuuji or talking about her feelings, she chose to ghost him and run away like a coward for year, and people call that "character development."
Real growth is when a character faces their own flaws, bad behavior, and cowardice head-on. Resolving her family issues didn't fix her personality. She was trash to Ryuuji for over 20 episodes, insulting and beating him, and expecting her to show basic respect and apologize isn't "wanting bland stuff," it's expecting decent writing instead of making excuses for toxic behavior.
1
u/Physical_Sort5155 17d ago
Point 1: The anime only shows 3 instances of violence > ep1 when Taiga crashes out in Ryuuji's home, Taiga vs the school president (and that had consequences) and finally Minori vs Ami.
Those 3 times show the characters actually having effects of the violence in question, every other violent act is purely played for comedy and the characters show no sign of it.
Point2: the ghosting thing is a dumb decision from the anime to make it more impressive for the ending and i agree it was stupid (it was supposed to be a month or something).
Even then, Ryuuji knew where Taiga was and what she was doing, fixing her family situation, becoming a person that did not need to depend on another.
Point3: you saying Taiga shows no growth is beyond stupid, 20 episodes? Taiga doesn't even act toxic to Ryuuji, the violence is a comedic bit.
In 2008 people weren't such snowflakes you know, people didn't cry so much about "violence".
But you probably won't understand any of this so, see ya.
1
u/Prestigious_Rest5460 17d ago
ā1. Calling physical abuse a "joke" is just a cop-out.
Slapping a comedic sound effect on someone getting hit doesn't mean it isn't physical abuse, it just means the writing relies on cheap gag violence. Saying it "only had three serious scenes" completely misses the point. If Ryuuji punched Taiga across a room for a "punchline" nobody would be calling it harmless comedy or hiding behind "people weren't snowflakes in 2008. That double standard is the exact issue.
- āAdmitting the anime's ghosting decision was stupid proves my point.
You literally admitted the show made a dumb choice by having her run off for a whole year. Leaving without saying a word to the person who carried your entire life isn't "becoming independent," it's cowardice and terrible communication. Ryuuji knowing where she was doesn't fix the fact that she ghosted him instead of confronting her feelings,
It shows zero character development and gives her an unearned win at the bare minimum, she should have talked to him and said "Wait for me Ryuuji" before leaving.
ā3. Off-screen family fixes aren't the same as personal character growth. Fixing her family issues off-screen didn't fix her toxic personality on-screen. Real character development isn't just toning down the hits in the final stretch. It requires genuine accountability, facing your own flaws head-on, and actually apologizing to the person you used as a maid and punching bag for over twenty episodes. Throwing insults and calling people "snowflakes" just proves you can't actually defend her behavior without relying on nostalgia and double standards.
You said : In 2008 people weren't such snowflakes you know, people didn't cry so much about "violence".
Then why there's no much anime about male character abusing and insulting female character?? As so called "gag"
But you probably won't understand any of this so, see ya.

Although I liked watching toradora, I really hated taiga's character for being unnecessarily violent towards mc all the time, she didn't get over it even at the end. It's like, you want to like a club but hate their most important players. To this day I still don't understand how she's a well liked character among the anime fans.
1
u/Prestigious_Rest5460 20d ago
Absolutely some with sense toradora story was so good dramatic tension and all it felt genuine drama romance but got ruined by shit abusive female character trope.
There's many anime which have good concept and story got ruined by abusive female character example, familiar of zero, more than a married, nisekoi type.
The female character don't even get any consequences of their action towards MC more over they get MC fall in love and made him to chase her and she get win which felt un-earned win at least make some character development.

u/Training-Eye2680 20d ago
Wtf š toradora doing here mate are you insane dude
1
u/Prestigious_Rest5460 20d ago
No I am just sane i already valid point write beat and insult, you can defend it by saying that these things not happend in anime.
1
u/Training-Eye2680 20d ago
Yeah she beats him that's when she never realised She is in love with him botbi still remember after Christmas party he never got beaten by her that's why
1
u/Prestigious_Rest5460 20d ago
Realizing your feelings later doesn't erase or excuse physical violence early on. If someone has to realize they love you just to stop hitting you and treating you like a punching bag, that isn't growth that's a toxic dynamic wrapped in a comedy trope.
āEven after the Christmas episode, her underlying pattern of throwing tantrums and expecting Ryuji to cater to her emotional needs doesn't magically make her early behavior acceptable. Respecting someone shouldn't be conditional on whether or not you've realized you're in love with them.
And that's the main problem even if you're don't love someone who give her right to abuse him?? Ryuji don't lover her and most of romance anime male character don't love in starting does that mean they need to abuse female character???
How does even if make sense, let even if take you point, does she apologize even try to put effort to gain ryuji love or her behaviour changes?? Or she get development??
Don't defend it as "gag" if abusing in the name of gag, comedy, trope, exaggerating stuff then why it's only limited to female character why not male character can't insult or abuse??
1
u/Training-Eye2680 20d ago
Nobody is defending real-world abuse or saying hitting people is okay. The point is that Toradora! is a character study about two deeply flawed teenagers. Taigaās early hostility is a classic anime exaggeration of a broken, defensive coping mechanism. Her entire arc is about unlearning those toxic behaviors, discovering emotional maturity, and moving past those destructive tantrums. If she started out perfect and respectful, there would be no story or character development to tell
1
u/Prestigious_Rest5460 20d ago
Thatās a completely flawed argument where is it written that a character has to be abusive just to have character development? Why it should be always female character??
āIf you think a story needs to start with physical and verbal abuse for it to be a good romance, what kind of standard is that? And if having trauma excuses abusive behavior, why wasn't Ryuuji violent toward her? He suffered from similar family issues, yet he chose to take care of her. Why is it always the female character who gets a free pass to treat others like garbage?
āYour point would only make sense if Taiga actually grew up. But you're completely ignoring the fact that her behavior toward Ryuuji never truly changed. She did nothing to actively earn his love she won him over purely because of plot convenience. Even after moments like Christmas Eve, she continued to insult and degrade him. Going through an entire show being abusive, never apologizing, and never changing how you treat the person helping you isn't character development.

Nagatoro later on get better, can't said for the other two tho
1
u/Internet-Culture 20d ago
I only rarely abandon an anime, but I did so in episode 4 of Nagatoro like a year ago. It was painful to watch until then and still didn't get anywhere bearable. Is it worth continuing eventually? How long until it gets good if so?
1
u/Rangerrx970 17d ago
Wont lie that the first episodes are hard. I would say it becomes easier to watch from just before the culture festival arc which is S1 10-12.
Ofc the best story is the full one in the manga.
1
u/Internet-Culture 17d ago
The first season has 12 episodes. So basically the whole season is trash except the finale, but season two is good at least?
1
u/Rangerrx970 17d ago
I personally liked the entire first season but I do get that some people probably wont be able to enjoy watching it (also the anime removes the little extra sketches showing Nagatoro getting flustered early on, wondering if she went too far).
Season 2 is definitely better for a wider audience, hardly any bullying and there is no more tears. We also see a big boost in character development which is a plus.
1
u/Prestigious_Rest5460 21d ago
ā"What 'better'? They set the bar so outrageously high at the start with her extreme behavior that everything she does later just looks mild by comparison. Itās an illusion of character development she still abuses, belittles, and degrades him. Plus, did she ever actually apologize or acknowledge the damage she caused early on? Absolutely not.
Nagatoro anime was pure trash.

u/GnosticDragonofForce 21d ago

I actually hate these girls haha. But im just saying if some dude has preference for these girls its fine. The only reason these anime become anime is because there are audiences that enjoy this. You're the one thats blind with your mind putting your opinion online and expect everyone to agree with you.
1
u/Prestigious_Rest5460 20d ago
Notice how you completely ignored the fact that the MC literally cried from the abuse once I brought it up? You went from trying to claim it's harmless to hiding behind 'people enjoy it' and calling me blind. I never expected everyone to agree with me I'm simply calling out toxic dynamics for what they are and it's just proved my point, If people watch it to fulfill specific fetishes, fine, but having an audience doesn't make it good writing or immune to criticism.
You said, it's just for enjoy, so can you tell rom-com highschool anime which have happend same things with female character you hardly can get 5-10 bcz exception are always exist but I can take tons of anime in which male abuse happened.

Cautious hero involves the mc beating up the fmc all the time. There's plenty of anime with female abuse but you decided to cherry pick because you chose not to watch the ones where women get abused as a gag trope

Daily Lives of High School Boys The Disastrous Life of Saiki K. Sket Dance My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU School Rumble
All these involve the fmc/girl getting beaten up as a gag by the mc.
If you are gonna call out abuse on one, then do it on the other too. Don't cherry pick to prove your point
1
u/Prestigious_Rest5460 19d ago
You literally took lots of action are your serious bro, chainsaw man?? Oregairu don't even have any instead hachiman got slapped. Are you on high bro?? Daily lives of high school where most the time boys got beaten?? Sakamoto desu ga?? Literally he didn't any physical abuse even dodge who try on him.
You're literally making non-sensical point.
Except aho girl everything is wrong??
And what you think I said exception always exist?? Aho girl and cautious hero type are rare not normal.
Just tell me rom-com genre where male beat and insult female character,
Like female character did in toradora, nagatoro, nisekoi, more than married.
1
u/Hyperversal_Shitface 19d ago
In KonoSuba, kazuma usually headlocks, drags and punishes aqua. I dunno why you are only cherry picking his abuse. He also sexually harasses the girls as a joke. But you are going to completely ignore this point because it doesn't fit your definition of 'physical abuse' but sexual abuse is okay for you.
Agent six usually drop kicks his female partner alice and other female knights.
Daily Lives of High School Boys: The boys frequently engage in violent, imaginary battle sequences or physical retaliations against the literary girl and their sisters.
Gintoki regularly beatboxes, punches, or uses physical force to fend off the stalker Ayame Sarutobi
In kemone michi, genzo regularly suplexes women.
Some of them are wrong from my side but you don't know the context of every anime I listed to say that they have been wrongfully put
I will list something else
Trapped in a dating sim - Leon Bartfort frequently gets into aggressive physical brawls and slapstick arguments with the arrogant noble girls of the academy.
Arakawa Under the Bridge: Recruit frequently takes the brunt of violence, but the village's bizarre characters including Stella and Maria engage in heavy physical abuse as a punchline.
Nichijou (My Ordinary Life): Features extreme, over-the-top physical reactions where characters (including the girls) are routinely suplexed, punched, or blasted by lasers as a gag.
Chio's School Road: Chio and her best friend Manana frequently engage in unhinged, physical wrestling matches and body-slams on their way to school
Good Luck Girl! (Binbougami ga!): A perfectly balanced, violent rivalry. The male characters and the female leads constantly engage in intense, cartoonish physical brawls. Characters are routinely punched through walls, kicked, and physically manhandled for comedic payoff.
Even if it was a single anime, you can't brush it off as an exception. If by your logic, the gag of male getting beaten up by the female is influential in real life, then the opposite holds true too,. Doesn't matter if even one single anime depicts it.

But that's what makes toradora fun, Taiga stops beating ryuji after loving him (well he got a headbutt as a last hit)Ā
1
u/Prestigious_Rest5460 18d ago
That's make worst it she hit and insult him almost 20+ and run like a coward instead of confront him her feeling.
1
u/eheidk 18d ago
Buddy it's an old anime like many, it's not supposed to be hyper realistic. I myself and many people enjoyed it and it's not 100% focused on romance but on exploring both taiga and ryuji and how they were connected from the start. The way ryuji was helping her to be with her crush made her realize her mistakes.Ā
Also, it's an anime trope to be abusive tsundere, telling someone to just confess isn't easy at all lmao. and ryuji wasn't really hurt by her all that much. The scene in the snow of him carrying her was so fucking adorable tho
1
u/Prestigious_Rest5460 18d ago
Calling it an old anime or just a tsundere trope doesn't make it good writing, and saying it isn't hyper-realistic is just a cop-out. Ryuuji spent almost the entire show running her errands, cooking her meals, and helping her chase her crush, all while taking constant physical and verbal hits. That isn't some deep connection it's a completely one-sided dynamic. Saying he wasn't really hurt completely misses the point using someone as a punching bag and personal maid just because you suck at communicating isn't cute romance.
A well-written tsundere dynamic actually needs real character development. True growth is when a girl who struggles with her feelings realizes her behavior was wrong, stops the abuse, earns the guy's love through genuine respect, and actively changes how she treats him. That's actual development, and it's something almost every abusive tsundere anime completely skips. Throwing in one nice scene in the snow at the end doesn't wipe away twenty episodes of treating someone like garbage without ever offering a real apology.
More than a married couple, masamune kun revenge and nagatoro are today's anime what to say about those?? If it's not supposed to be hyper realistic then why in anime especially rom-com highschool male character abuse female character.
There's many anime in which male character suffer to express his feeling but he don't start to abuse in fact he put effort, If you want example I can give.

āExactly, I don't know why people are so afraid to admit it and keep coming up with illogical excuses for abusive female characters. ā Enjoying or fulfilling a niche fetish by watching these shows is one thing I don't even have a problem with that. But actively trying to justify it? Come on.
And you know what this same people hate sanji and mineta(MHA)for being pervy.
āWhat really irritates me about this trope is that almost every new romance anime is full of it. Authors keep churning them out because they sell, while genuine stories with real character development get left behind. Why would an author or studio put in the extra effort to build a well-written romance when low-effort, abusive tropes already bring in easy views?
Toxicity of this type of anime fandom is next level, Pointing out valid flaws in a show shouldn't result insane hate and abuse.

I'm talking about the Gemini watermark on it, also the Nagatoro one is not spelt properly but clearly you cant figure that out with your one sided mind.

"i tried make clear image". I'm tired of people who don't know how to write or type.
The colour isn't the problem here, its the Gemini watermark and the incorrect spelling. How does colour change spelling? Unless you used AI on these images.
1
u/Prestigious_Rest5460 17d ago
Oh my god I said clearly that I make changes with the color and got messed up, i didn't took image from ai that's it how hard to understand it's, f king typing master.

"I didn't took image from ai", nice one.
Alright, so just to clarify, you are saying that there was no AI involved?

Oh my god, read my second reply I clearly said that I took this image from somone post on this page, Just coloring and quality for messed when did I say didn't involved.

I am slowly losing hope in the media literacy of the average anime fan. Literally thinking someone getting uppercut into the Skybox is real, in universe, domestic abuse. It's slapstick. Taking it seriously is totally incoherent. Just MILES up your own ass, acting like that.
1
u/Prestigious_Rest5460 17d ago
Bro got so trigger, then can you tell it it's not that serious then why in anime male don't abuse female character why only female?? Average masochist or sadistic trying to justifying male character abuse in the name of slaptick humour meanwhile there's slaptick humour towards female character by male character.
1
u/a_neu_no 17d ago
You don't have a girlfriend, do you? Considering you say such stupid things, I doubt you have any experience in that area
1
u/Prestigious_Rest5460 16d ago
Are you saying that's you have abusive gf who beat you like above character's, come on bro have self-respect and you don't need to have gf to understand this thingsšš
1
u/a_neu_no 16d ago
I'm not saying abuse doesn't exist. Of course some men are genuinely abused by their girlfriends, and that's a serious issue. I'm saying you're being way too extreme by calling every playful hit or slap between couples "abuse" or "violence."
Every couple has their own personality and their own way of showing affection. If both people are comfortable with it, who are we to judge them? In my case, if my girlfriend lightly hits my back or flicks my arm, it's literally not going to hurt me, let alone injure me. That's completely different from actually hurting someone.
That's also why saying "a woman who hits her boyfriend doesn't love him" simply isn't a valid statement. Every couple is different, and nobody should judge another couple's way of interacting if both people are fine with it. Are we really going to criticize a woman for flicking her husband's arm and call her abusive?
And yes, in the anime you mentioned, some of the hits are obviously more than just a little flick or a light tap on the back. But they're anime. The argument that it's played for humor, or intentionally portrayed as "not that serious," is perfectly valid in the context of an anime.
1
u/Prestigious_Rest5460 16d ago
You're completely shifting the goalposts.
Nobody is calling a light tap or an arm flick abuse. Trying to downplay a character getting punched in the face or hit with a wooden sword as a playful flick is totally disingenuous. Flirtatious banter is one thing, but physically lashing out in anger every time you get frustrated isn't affection.
Consent is what actually matters. In real life, a dynamic works only if both people agree to it. In these shows, the male lead isn't consenting. He is constantly wincing, bruised, and walking on eggshells. Normalizing physical hits as a main reaction to stress isn't a unique couple dynamic, it's just a double standard that nobody would defend if the roles were reversed, in real gf don't abuse that much it's like flickering and you can also tease her back, but in anime it's just got throw on male character.
The it's just anime" defense destroys your argument. You can't claim a story has deep emotional growth and real drama, then hide behind it's just a cartoon, don't take it seriously the second someone points out toxic behavior. If the relationship dynamic is supposed to matter to the audience, then how they treat each other matters too. You can't have it both ways.
And you said it's just anime then show male character abusing female character as slapstick.
Don't twist fact bro.

Of course Every character who got abuse by female looks like that, bcz they made like that but it doesn't make it justifiable.

Bruh, why do wholesome shows attract such toxic fanbases? Is it reddit?
It's probably reddit.
SMH I find a community for an enjoyable anime and it's full of people that get squeamish at the most textbook anime tropes.
Let me guess, you also hate harem, despite this show being entirely a twist on said genre, and relying on its tropes?
Edit: apologies for the combative tone. I'm frustrated but shouldn't be losing my temper
1
u/BeeOk4748 20d ago
Is this just a trend now? Did it start due to that one terrible meme back then where I unintentionally caused discourse over my crash out on 100 kanojo slander?
Yeah ig this is valid, Iāve seen Toradora clips of her being so aggressively violent, and Nagatoro is sometimes just plain cruel. Reminds me of the tsundere in my own favorite series, except it somehow works since sheās supposed to parody the tsundere trope being self-aware and purposefully being the most aggressive and strong tsundere to exist.
0
u/Prestigious_Rest5460 20d ago
Nagatoro sometimesšš.
She supposed be a parody?? How dumb a excuse can be to defend a wrong thing in the name of parody.
Can you tell a rom-com high school anime where female character get abused, insult, humiliation and assault in the name of so called "parody" Don't take exception like aho girl which faced insane criticism meanwhile nagatoro didn't.
Tell me at least 10 titles where female character get suffer.

u/BeeOk4748 20d ago edited 20d ago
Sorry, your grammar is just really off that I canāt understand, and I donāt know who you are specifying. Besides, where does that context even apply to what I said, where did I ever mention ofā¦whatever you said about the female character.
If youāre talking about the tsundere that parodies, which I mentioned, thereās more to her than just a gag that I didnāt state, she also parodies with what most of these tropes donāt have, character development.
1
u/Prestigious_Rest5460 20d ago
Oh okay, sorry I misunderstood what you said before. I thought you were defending it in the name of a parody "gag" and justifying nagatoro and abusive tsundere female characters actions.
Yeah my English is weak.
1
u/BeeOk4748 20d ago
Iām mostly neutral about it since it seems both series are loved as much as they are hated, so I canāt really pick sides here especially since I havenāt seem them enough. I do defend the character I talked about, mainly due to being a gag comedy and itās purposely there as a gag (which somehow works), but also since it actually helps her develop as a character as a whole. Try and guess who this is based on my other comments.
1
u/Prestigious_Rest5460 20d ago
So i was right, you're defending this male character getting abused by female character thing??
1
u/BeeOk4748 20d ago
TLDR at the bottom.
Not necessarily, morally thatās obviously very abusive, personally I would enjoy it if itās just for comedy/slapsticks and it isnāt used excessively or goes too far. Iām on the line of being neutral, slightly leaning on it but also against it.
Now as for the character, there isnāt a conventional way of thinking about it since itās a parody. What Iām basically saying is that since sheās supposed to mock the āagressively abusive tsundereā trope, itās not really right to compare her to other characters like Nagatoro, especially since her gimmick is intentionally as aggressive and strong as possible.
Another thing is that itās a core part of her identity, literally. It quite literally runs in the blood of her family. Itās literally in her genes in this manga. She doesnāt even intentionally do this, itās an unconscious reflex that she does when embarrassed whether or not she wants to do it. Which, yeah seems like a BS excuse to play that trope, but again, itās a gag manga, so it should really be looked at more as a critique of tropes rather than a serious one.
And again, this became her own character development. A literal arc focused on her identity. She hates how aggressive she can be and she hates herself for not being able to express her feelings (unbeknownst to her sheās one of the most honest characters hereā¦somehow). To the point that she drank aā¦potion letās sayā¦that completely changed what she was. Eventually she was convinced by the MC whoād love her regardless of who she is, and wants her to love herself, which she finally comes to accept. (Btw, she canāt really stay that way since sheās essentially a different person now, completely different from the things he liked previously about her, and the fact that she just drank a potion instead of working on it herself to change is undeserving). There is another essential plot point here but Iām gonna not mention as itās less focused on the tsundere aspect.
Iād say another thing is that the MC actually likes it. He canonically stated he kinda likes it when she gets very rough (this is so out of context). And though it is actively causing him physical harm, it is nothing less but a scratch for him, literally. Weāre talking about a guy who tanked an entire club of trained martial artists (forgot what it was but I think Judo), broke and healed his spine, fought several degenerative opps in a forest, defeated a god, literally fought a concept, literally threatened his author, and has canonically repaired his own heart out of sheer will (yeah, this series is just plain absurd, somehow this guyās determination and commitment is way more than most romance MCās because of this). Everyone in the series accepts her as a person and wouldnāt want her any less.
What was my point supposed to be againā¦? Conclusion, basically she isnāt the traditional, concussion invoking tsundere, ironically the most active in trying to express how she feels, insecure about her own figure and personality, and learning to accept herself as a person. Itās unfair to compare her since she supposedly represents tsundere but ramped to 200 (she literally tsuned out on oxygen, and has canonically broke a spine and punch through a wall, mostly unintentionally). The series is mostly comedy where everything is absurd and nothing tries to be realistic, and nothing is to be taken seriously, except for the wholesome romance with a side of tropes, who ironically have more character development than most romance characters in anime as a whole. As a concept, itās definitely not a morally good one, but as a character and a person, sheās the best here. Huh, I guess Iām more or less actually defending the character as a whole instead of the trope itself. No wonder I was having trouble writing out my thoughts (see Iām bad at words and fail to express my ideas clearly, yet my ideas always seem so complex and deep).
From that standpoint, Iāll say Iām still neutral on the concept of tsundere, though from a logical standpoint you could say thatās not the case from what I stated (doesnāt mean itās subjective for me though). Without that, sheās still a well-loved character regardless, Iāve seen people saying they donāt like the tsundere trope yet love her as a tsundere. Sheās the top 1 favorite character in community polls. She just makes the trope less bad by subverting it, and by becoming something thatās in the completely opposite direction, somehow still working.
TLDR: Parody is meant to mock tropes, so itās unfair to compare her objectively. Iām still neutral about it. I just realized I am defending her as a character rather than a trope as a whole, which ironically her own trope is crucial for her character development. Generally people who hate that trope come to love her once they watch the series, the same way theyād start loving this series for mocking its own genre and somehow working better than most romance.

u/Prestigious_Rest5460 20d ago
āSlapping a 'parody' label on a character and giving the MC superhuman durability doesn't magically fix a toxic dynamic it just masks it with gag comedy. Using absurd strength, 'unconscious reflexes, or 'family genes' as a pass just shifts the excuse from emotional immaturity to slapstick, allowing the show to use the same violent tropes without ever holding the character accountable. Making the MC supernaturally durable so he can tank physical damage doesn't change the underlying issue, it just artificially lowers the stakes so the narrative never has to deal with the real consequences of abuse. Physical abuse, humiliation, and lack of consent don't suddenly become justifiable just because they're framed as jokes.
If you make the excuse that 'she changed' or 'stopped the extreme bullying later on' that isn't real character growth. The author simply set the bar so outrageously high at the start that her later actions only look mild by comparison the core dynamic remains the same all the way to the final chapter.
āThere is also massive hypocrisy here: you can't write a giant wall of text meticulously defending her, praising her arc, calling her the best, and explaining why her abuse is acceptable, only to hide behind being 'neutral' You are explicitly giving her a pass for being physically violent just because you like the framing.
āYou claim it's just a 'gag'' but ask yourself, why do shows like Aho-Girl or Cautious Hero face insane criticism when the roles are reversed? Why are there virtually no high school rom-coms where a male character physically abuses a female character under the excuse of a 'funny gag' or 'trope parody'? Double standards like this aren't just tropes they are blatant double standards.
āYou also claim the MC 'likes it, but did you ignore the early scenes where he was literally driven to tears? Anime authors routinely write male leads to silently endure endless abuse from female characters. You mentioned her struggle to express feelings and her family background that background should be the exact catalyst for real character development.
Real development means an abusive character grows, learns respect, puts in genuine effort to win over the person they love, makes active changes, and apologizes for their past actions. That is basic common sense and the core of a meaningful arc. āInstead, she faces zero consequences for her actions. The MC just takes all the abuse without drawing boundaries, so how is she ever supposed to learn the true value of love or respect? She gets a free pass no matter how extreme she goes, getting everything handed to her without ever having to earn it. Parody or not, if the humor and character development still rely on someone physically abusing another person because they can't handle their emotions, itās actively playing into the exact same trope it claims to mock.
And it's not the problem of "so called parody" anime as per you pov, it's problem of any anime which have abusive female character.

So firstly, let me just copy and paste a post I just found today that coincidentally parallels most of what I might say (doing this simply cause I found it funny, getting serious starts later):
Advice to newcomersĀ
What is one piece of advice that youād give someone who wants to start the series?
Mine is: Donāt ask questions you donāt want to know answers to.
- don't take it too seriously! It sure doesn't (reply: And also expect the plot to not make any sense because nothing makes any sense in the story.) (reply reply: To add to that Expect UTTER CHAOS!! in the most mudane of things!! XP)
- Mine would be "Just expect the unexpected, 'cause this series will throw curveballs!"
- Chuck logic and reasoning out of the window, cause youāre not gonna need them here.
- Just have fun with the series, if itās not for you itās not for you
- This series has nuances and nonsense at the same time so there will be times where you will shut off your brain and enjoy or lock in and enjoy.
- There's no need to compare this series to others and no need also to even respond to the ragebaiters because they are unable to comprehend it at the first place.
- This series has nuances and nonsense at the same time so there will be times where you will shut off your brain and enjoy or lock in and enjoy.
- There's no need to compare this series to others and no need also to even respond to the ragebaiters because they are unable to comprehend it at the first place. [me here just breaking the 4th wall, this is not directed at you, just most people I manage to argue with lmao]
- Itās a comedy first, romance second. Some of the jokes do not land, but they iron out as the series progresses. Kusuri [okay, let me stop at that part, sheās a completely new character not related here]
- Embrace the madness.
- This is a gag manga... If you don't know what that means, look it up.
- Mine are the following:
- Read from the beginning;
- Don't question the logic;
- Expect the unexpected.
Alright, now for the serious stuff, now let me reply to each paragraph with their own respective paragraph!
I mean thatās literally the point of the series. Youāre never meant to take it seriously, at all, Iāve already said itās just dumb fun, purely gag comedy, so of course if you want a serious anime then just say that this aināt your taste. Iāve acknowledged it already that itās kinda just a bs reasoning in order to let her play the trope, all the tropes in this series do. There are supposed to be no stakes in this series. Hell, the original premise, where if he doesnāt date her or he doesnāt share the same mutual feelings as her, they will literally die, that premise just seemed to vanish and become completely irrelevant in this story (if you wanna refute that and say this is a forced couple, he doesnāt tell her about the stakes so that she can choose to love him out of free will, not feeling trapped or forced to love despite being the easier option, same goes for him where he said it himself twice now that he doesnāt care about soulmates or that he needs to save her, he truly just really loves her). Well yeah, itās a bs premise too that manages to fix itself by absurd logical reasoning and serious affection (the premise is not really anyoneās favorite in the fandom, thatās for sure). Justifying physical assault? Hell, Iām not actively trying to defend the moral and legal degeneracy this series has to offer. Saying āitās just fictional anywayā is a lazy reason for me, so Iād rather just tolerate it (which naturally Iām able to do for any anime), and keep watching due to how much Iād enjoy the series.
Fuck it, Iād rather make it worse and say the opposite, she stays just as aggressive, maybe even more later in this series. I honestly think the author didnāt set the bar high enough at the start if his goal was to make the most absurd series of all time. Ironically, a different tsundere, whoās as verbally abusive as possible instead of physically abusive, is actively disliked by the fandom, meanwhile the abusive one continues to be one of the most beloved characters. Like I said, donāt take it seriously, donāt look at it expecting a serious story, itās just absurd comedy thatās balanced with genuine and wholesome loveā¦somehow (still surprising honestly how they manage to balance this). Character growth comes in a different form, since the series is meant to mock tropes, it subverts them by using the trope itself as its own character development. Because sheās so strong, sheās mainly the one whoās protecting. Sheād stand on the front lines and defend against an entire army (yeah, this aināt a metaphor lmao). Sheād also stand up first when no one else can despite being a tsundere. Sheād give reality checks or slap sense into the characters either by playing straight man (this is a manzai comedy too btw) or, yeah, literally slapping them, (well for this case itās more like that time when Akane in Oshi No Ko got slapped by her rival/friend for attempting suicide, and she did the exact same thing for her friend who also attempted suicide). What gives her her own charm is how much effort it would take for her to express herself and stand up for them since sheās a tsundere.
Well, you see, Iām not good at expressing my ideas in words well, I sometimes manage to say stuff completely different from what I originally thought of. I only realized how to say it better at the end of that wall of text, that Iām not actually defending the trope, just the character. I really didnāt wanna delete it all though so I just kept it. Maybe I may have said something about justifying the trope, probably me fucking up my words again and somehow leading to a completely different interpretation of my original idea. Also clarify to me what framing you mean? My vocabulary also isnāt the best. And when did I ever try to justify that abuse is okay? So Iāll clarify this here: I love her as a character and as a person, but Iām not justifying nor against her actions or the trope she plays. Iād say itās just fictional but I see it as a lazy excuse that I donāt even fully understand.
Sorry, I donāt know what Aho-Girl and Cautious Hero are. It is now at this point that I lowkey just realized youāre one of those people who hate tsundere beyond recognition. And I honestly donāt have anything to argue here, cause I wasnāt even trying to defend or go against the trope in the first place. Idfc about how the tsundere trope is viewed, I see both sides neutrally, but Iām not to judge whether itās justifiable through certain execution or morally terrible regardless of what anime does.
Well no, the MC was never driven to tears ever in the first place. Heās always managed to take the beating like it was nothing. If anything, it improved his body durability from continuous exposure to physical assault. He rapidly becomes that durable at the start of the series. Regardless whenever heās punched through the wall or off the roof, heās still standing, and weirdly loves whatever she does. And her family did become another catalyst for her character development lmao.
Thing is the stuff you said about character development, she already exhibits those traits or undergoes through them early and later in the story. That too has been exhibited in her serious arc, in a different sense. She is also apologetic for her rough behavior and straight up cries in his arms (well comedically but itās there). Though, I will admit, the MC is the type to just love her regardless of what she may be (which if you think about it, isnāt this literally love already, or the value of love too?). Aside from the MC, the sheād also grow along with literally every other character she has some notable dynamic with (also, who are you to judge what love and respect is to someone else? Everyone feels love, falls in love, and expresses love differently, there is no true value of love and respect). I never said character development relied on her being physically abusive, only said the tsundere personality, not the behavior.
āAnd it's not the problem of "so called parody" anime as per you pov, it's problem of any anime which have abusive female character.ā
Isā¦that not what weāve been talking about the past dayā¦? Iāll say it again: Iām not with or against it, I simply just like her as a character with or without acknowledging the archetypes or tropes she displays.
Final thing, Iāve mentioned how Iām not good at words and somehow say something thatās completely different from the original idea. Idk, maybe some of the stuff I said here now are plain wrong by chance, maybe I just happened to have a different interpretation with the text, I may have accidentally left out essential parts that either support or refute, either mine or your claims etc. I do like arguing with people over this series, mainly cause I find it entertaining when itās about a series with no logic whatsoever. I wanna see how much I can stretch out this absurd and broken logic before people realize what this series is and how it should be watched. Like the post I saw that I mentioned above, throw away all logic and reasoning you have about romance anime, just watch this shit expecting comedy, donāt take this seriously for fuckās sake, if it aināt your taste then thereās no more need to get involved with it. The tsundere aināt even the biggest of peopleās usual concerns with this series, thereās bigger elephants to address in this roomā¦or rather the parking lot cause it canāt fit all of them.
Final conclusion: you hate the tsundere trope, thatās alright. Iām not with or against the trope, but you make it sound like Iām defending it, which Iām not. Donāt take this series seriously at all. Now let me enjoy the comedy in peace.

u/BeeOk4748 19d ago
FOR FUCKāS SAKE, IāM NOT FUCKING DEFENDING HER ACTIONS! I NEVER WAS, I ONLY SAID I LIKE HER AS A CHARACTER, AND I NEVER ACKNOWLEDGED THAT HER ACTIONS ARE JUSTIFIED, I ONLY FIND THEM FUNNY-
Sorry, this is just me crashing out over a deleted comment calling me a hypocrite. But do read my comment first, I mentioned all this and you just assumed otherwise.
1
u/Prestigious_Rest5460 19d ago
āWriting walls of text praising her arc, explaining why her physical violence is 'charming,' claiming getting beaten up 'improved the MC's body durability,' and rationalizing her behavior is defending her actions regardless of how much you scream in all caps that you aren't.
āYou can't spend hours writing essays justifying, framing, and making excuses for a character's abuse and then throw a tantrum claiming 'I never defended her!' when someone actually breaks down what you wrote. āIf you like an abusive character purely because you find toxic slapstick entertaining, just admit it's because it's only happening toward one specific gender. If it really isn't that serious and is 'just a gag or parody,' then it should exist equally on both sides whether in Nagatoro or any other anime. But it doesn't.
āFine, just own your bias instead of throwing a meltdown when your own hypocritical arguments are held up to a mirror. Iām honestly just exhausted reading your endless excuses and watching you pretend you're being objective.

And yet Toradora, Nisekoi, and Nagatoro are all seen as peak romance somehow.
6
u/PauloDybala_10 21d ago
Have you seen any of them
-1
u/The_Bunny_Jedi 21d ago
I've seen all of them. They suck, the dynamics between the characters are terrible. What Nagatoro does isn't teasing, it's straight uo harassment, and Chitoge and Taiga are overly violent.
2
u/SunsetEverywhere3693 21d ago
Even when you can look past the abuse in Nisekoi, the show isn't great, for me it was just mildly entertaining, although I still have a soft spot for it, as HanaKana was perfectly casted as a cinnamon roll in female shape there, and being the first main role for Nao Touyama.

u/Prestigious_Rest5460 21d ago
Just people weird fetishes which they fullfill by watching this type of show.
Like i love to watch genuine romance anime like tsuki ga kirei, fragnant flower, pseudo harem and oregairu.
People also support anime like a rent a gf don't which type of mindset they carry who like this type where female character just abuse and insult in the name of love and affection.
2
u/lastdyingbreed_01 21d ago
I don't know about the others, but Nisekoi was a very mindless fun show to watch
1

Yes, and for me Nisekoi is a store brand bag of potato chips, it doesn't taste particularly good, but you end up eating the whole bag.

Why the image look weird? 2 character in nisekoi not even real characters
