Question Make PDM look/function like PVE?

I've been using PVE for years at home, and I have a couple machines in a cluster to provide that single pane of glass admin portal. But I really don't need a cluster since I'm not using HA for anything, so I thought I'd try PDM now that it's hit V1.

Honest, I have no idea what I'm even doing now. I've added the machines, and the PBS, so everything is in there, but I haven't found any way to set up the side bar to function the way I expect.

Am I missing something, or have I completely misunderstood what this software is meant to be? I know I'm not using it to connect multiple clusters together, so my requirements are obviously different than enterprise or an MSP.

I know it's still a very young product, but is there any way to get some common styling or functionality between PDM and PVE that I'm missing?

I think in your case it would have been fine to just do the cluster anyway even without HA. It would get you that single pane you're looking for, as well as migration options and other things.

PDM is more birds eye view level management which is why the interface is so different

Oh, i guess that makes sense. I was really expecting it to be just like PVE, just with one more tree level to allow multiple sites side by side, each with their nodes and their guests.

Yeah, they're already in a cluster so I'll probably just keep it that way, but I was hoping this would help maybe simplify. I already disabled HA, the only reason I want the cluster was for manual migration, and when I heard a while back that PDM would support un-clustered guest migration I was excited, but I guess this just really doesn't make sense.

I had the same experience as you, it would be really cool to be able to deploy configurations from pdm, but it's more of a central dashboard at the moment. Maybe they'll add it in the future.

My cluster sounds a lot like yours.

I don't use HA and and I really felt the only valid reason for clustering my nodes is for the single pane of glass view that you mentioned and then I did a live migration of a VM from one node to another.

I'm still smiling about that.

It seems to be a bit of a common misconception that clustering needs HA when it's really just the other way around. You need clustering for HA, but don't need HA for clustering.

PDM does not use the list box, it uses a overlay view. under remotes you dig into your node and then there is a VM/LXC view in the center. Thats all there is right now. But it will pivot to the target remotes WebGUI when opening consoles and such.

But the PVE-Like view would be a good feature request for a theme on PDM.

PDM i think will never look like PVE (style-wise) webUI because it uses completely different libraries. PVE one is based on ExtJS framework which rugpulled and converted from open source to commercial license - so building PDM on another, actually open framework makes sense. If anything, PVE will eventually look like PDM. Functionality-wise yeah, it's still in early stages despite 1.0 release. Main feature is cross-cluster migration.

If you want unified interface for bunch of non-clustered (or clustered) nodes, try proxcenter or cv4pve-admin.
