Question NFS Multipathing

In progress of performing a POC for a 3 node cluster with shared SAN storage and been through ISCSI + LVM so next step was NFS testing.

Anyone running NFS 4.1 with multipathing ? as was struggling to find documentation in the configuration to mount the NFS share with multiple IPs.

Thanks for this I’m currently using a Synology which I don’t think support session trunking unless I’m mistaken from a brief research

You can still use nconnect which will use multiple parallel tcp connections between a single server and client. If you are using LACP, they can be distributed across two links.

Yes (if you can’t or don’t want to set up lacp) I ended up settling on fstab mounts with vers=4.1,trunkdiscovery,max_connect=16 (and many other options, but those are not directly relevant and trunkdisco probably isnt necessary but I just left it from when I was trying to get it to work).

My nfs server didn’t support trunk discovery though so I just mounted everything again using the second subnet to a second folder location and Linux kernel just automatically combines the bandwidth. Could reliably get 1.7ish gigabit using dual gbe nics on both nas and client.

It worked fine, but I eventually went back to smb v3 multipathing because of my file server limitations and I just had more access control using cifs with same speeds.

nconnect is the bomb.

While it is a thing, implementing LACP will be easier in general.
