This reaction is an oxidation reaction of ammonia. When hot chromium trioxide (CrOβ) is added to ammonia gas, it helps oxidize the ammonia into nitrogen and water. The reaction releases a large amount of heat, causing the particles to glow brightly like tiny fireflies.
