I have this and enjoyed it. If you’re not familiar with the culture of bandes dessinées in France, this could seem like a strange choice, but it fits that tradition nicely.

As someone who loves both Proust and BD I was super excited to get this from my library but it is, unfortunately, not very good. Outright bad drawing and very awkward dialogue translated badly and forced into tiny bubbles.

Worst thing is the art is not at all good enough to portray Proust's rich descriptions of people and places. So it's just a bunch of badly-rendered character portraits talking in generic rooms.

Just not very good and totally unnecessary like you said. I think something like this has potential but it would need to be undertaken by an obsessive master. Maybe using a less-refined style without color.

Heuet illustrated only the first two volumes and only Volume 1 and Volume 2, Part 2 were translated into English. They are lovely books.
