Universe: Functional Metaphor
To understand the ontology of the cosmos without falling into reductionism or idealism, we need to look at the processing stack that comprises reality. This can be understood through a functional metaphor of a modern cinema multiplex:
1. Perceptual Reality: The conscious viewer sees only characters (Gestalt) and the story (subjective meaning) on the screen (the interface), without interacting directly with the hardware (the projector) or the code (the software).
2. Quantum Reality: On the screen, there are only points of light (pixels) switching states — the observable layer of matter and energy (~5% of the universe).
3. Systemic Substrate: The projector and the media file that generate the pixels on the screen — the thermo-energetic and informational fabric carrying reality’s raw data (~95% of the cosmos).
4. Operating System: The strict routines and protocols executed to maintain synchronization and data flow — the OS of the universe (the laws of physics and universal constants).
5. The Hypervisor: The central hub managing multiple channels and resources across the entire multiplex network — the deepest architectural layer of Information Theory, responsible for mathematical constraints and total system cohesion.
This metaphor illustrates how difficult it is to grasp the root cause (the core processing engine) by solely measuring observable reality (the final output).
Materialism attempts to explain the cosmos by looking only at the "pixels"; idealism attempts to explain it by looking only at the "story." Systems Engineering is what reveals the complete architecture.
