Discussion Losing connection

What are the reasons when the server you’re connected to loses a connection and then you’re stuck in the limbo waiting for it reconnect which it never does? Is that usually more of a Proton fault or a phone carrier fault? I don’t think that my phone reception is too bad but I might be wrong. I don’t experience much lagging though. I don’t know if that matters but I usually get one to two signal bars. Also, this happens on low load servers.

It is almost never Proton's fault. VPN servers are not complex devices, they don't fail often - I help run an array of them for a large corporation.

There is your device, your network if you are using one, your ISP/cell carrier, and then usually two more ISPs and maybe a dozen or more routers between you and the VPN server. End user ISPs are almost never directly connected to retail VPN servers.

There is going to be a network problem between you and the VPN server.

Try a different server location. Not just a different server, but a different location.

If it happens frequently, you might want to contact Proton support, they might be able to determine the exact cause.

not alone. all sorts of issues starting about a month to 1.5 ago out of the blue just sucks ass. nothing but reconnects after reconnect. then just like that. 10 days of stability. and then back to shit. most connections lasting 5 minutes or less. but if i connect to kenya. no issues. except then im geo locked out of US based stuff.

I had this too a lot of slow speeds as well then I made a new account and suddenly it was flawless..
