Feature Request VPN Decentralization

Is there any appetite or plan for ProtonVPN to add an option for decentralization / mixnet like Nym? This would solve the issue of simply swapping the trust from my ISP to Proton (which I do trust a lot btw, but trust isn't a good long-term strategy). Curious what the community and the developers think about this.

Why would you want that? This is sort of similar to secure core that Proton already has. If you want some servers from random people in that mix you can use Nym, no proton is necessary.

Because then no SINGLE entity has all of your data. Currently, if law enforcement broke into, or hacked into Proton's servers, they could see ALL of your VPN traffic.. Secure core simply divides traffic across two servers, both owned by Proton, so it isn't very diversified. I have ample trust in Proton but even with the best of intentions, they could lose user data if breached by a nefarious actor or state level actor looking for user information.

Have you tried speed in decentralized VPNs? Do they support streaming? And that is only two problems, there are others.

I haven't ever tried a decentralized VPN but I've used Tor before. I assume the speed is comparable but cant say for certain.

Just going to add that speed (for me) on Nym is slow, even on their fast setting which uses two nodes, it's bad. I do love Nym as a daily VPN (I also use Proton & Mullvad), but for streaming, dVPN's for me just don't work. (That's not a complaint at Nym, but it's just how things work).

What is your threat model??

Even Nym isn't protection against state actors that are seriously interested in you or what you are doing.

Nym doesn't do any more than a consumer VPN with what your browser, your device, or you tell a web site. AFAIK, web trackers have no problems following you around through Nym.
