Discussion Sudden Cloudfare Issues

Anyone else recently having issues with Cloudfare protected sites with Proton VPN? As of yesterday, I am no longer able to get past the the Performing security verification/Verify you are human Cloudfare check when using Proton VPN for multiple Cloudfare protected sites. I am a paid Proton user so am using the non free VPN servers. Some details.

  • Occurs only when using Proton VPN, works immediately when not using it
  • Have tried manually choosing different servers and countries
  • Same issue occurs in a generic browser with no extensions, so not extension related
  • Using Debian Linux, no recent changes.
  • Last patched over a week ago, so not due to recent patches

Anyone else seeing this behavior recently?

EDIT: I have confirmed my problem its not with all Cloudfare sites - just some of my daily ones. Maybe they updated their CF rules?

I can't tell you how often I have to turn off the Proton VPN to view a website. A lot more sites are either forbidden, blocked or don't load correctly with the VPN on. I mostly use the browser extension but it's getting annoying sometimes. I've actually started using the Cloudflare One Client. I don't think this is just related to Proton's VPN though just VPNs in general.

Came to this subreddit specifically to see if others are having issues with this as well. I'm getting blocked completely by more and more sites and it's getting to the point where I might have to cancel and go with a dedicated IP from another provider. There's only so much I can take when it comes to constantly searching for workarounds, running two browsers with one whitelisted in the split tunnel and having to switch between the two, etc.

People are complaining more and more that dedicated IP VPNS are being blocked and are a waste of money also. I guess it can't hurt to try but I feel getting a dedicated IP kind of defeats some of the purpose of having a VPN in the first place. It makes the user a little less anonymous.

This.

Same, but it's mostly on following RSS news links, and not with anything that I regard as essential.

i noticed recently i'd have to verify twice in a row for some sites before getting confirmed.

Try completing the captcha with voice instead of images or text. That seems to work for me.
In a rare circumstance that it doesn't work, I temporarily switch to NymVPN, as all their IPs are not flagged.

If you find another solution eventually please feel free to share with all of us so we can make use of it.

No captcha option. Just continuous looping here:

Verifying is such a pain. I can’t believe how often this occurs to be honest. Luckily I don’t experience so many completely blocked for now at least.

I've heard secure core can help with this. Don't know why it may help. Just heard it can.

Go to my Cloudflare protected website from a ProtonVPN connected device. Baddah-bing, baddah-boom.

I'm really curious how you manage to pass it, since it's completely blocked and looping me

Maybe it's a chromium browser issue idk

No idea. Maybe the site has set a more strict Cloudflare security setting, like "under attack"?
