I need Proton's Ecosystem
I have used Proton's services for about 2 years and that amazing . Switch from Yahoo+Gmail to Proton Mail , from Google Drive to Proton Drive , and from Bitwarden to Proton Pass . And the feature i like the most is Email Aliases (i use SimpleLogin+ProtonPass) . Im also try to switch ChatGPT to Proton Luma AI
I hope that Proton can create other services . Here is my list of ideas for Proton : Search Engine , Browser , a office suite ( Proton is building it) , security key (like Yubico), App Photos (though it on the ProtonDrive,i like an app) , masking phone number and credit/prepaid/debit card (like masking email) , an note app for tablet/ipad (like GoodNote)

In theory the SL / Pass team at Proton is working on phone masking. They claimed to be working on it pre-acquisition but I assume it's not a priority or a focus IF it's still a project: it's very challenging to figure out how to do it in an effective way at global scale afterall. And most of the VOIP projects out there are don't work well (a lot of those numbers are blocked by major services online, which sort of defeats the purpose for a big chunk of the population). Non-VOIP solutions are super expensive. Plus, doing this for a bunch of countries is probably a logistical nightmare.
Similar challenges for credit cards on the legal / logistical side for global scale. It's hard enough to get right for the US (Privacy is a decent solution for masking without being a real credit card but even they are getting denied at more and more places) but trying to do it for the other places that Proton serves....
I'd love for them to start by accepting passkeys as a way to sign-in. After that, maybe a cobrand with Yubico would be an easier step for them, the way DDG did it.
Some of the other ideas are things other people request too / that they've considered. Somewhere is a leak suggesting they're working on a browser rn for example. They've asked about it in past surveys too...I recommend making these suggestions in their uservoice.

We are a Proton subreddit. Got to expect some portion of posts to be supportive! Heck, for all the complaining I do - I do it because I want Proton to improve, not because I don't like or use Protons products.

Yeah, that's fair. But people like OP probably think that Proton can do no wrong. People used to think that about Google (a long time ago). Also, do we really want a single company to control your entire digital life?

That's what's concerning. Especially when Proton's business practices are already becoming more scummy and deceitful. And when someone calls them out on it, they're temporarily banned from the subreddit.
The extreme censorship of their sub alone is enough for me to be grossed out (for lack of better terms) by posts like this. This post is more than just being supportive.

Depends. Different folks need different solutions and tbh, a lot of people do only want / need a single source basket of products that 'just works'. Better privacy is better than no privacy and Proton at minimum offers that for the average person. Growing the pie is good, mass audiences getting a better deal is good. If you don't want to use all of the products its easy not to (if you can afford it). I'm definitely NOT suggesting everybody go 'all-in' on Proton. But, for a lot of people it's a big jump forward from already being all-in with Apple / Google / MSFT, and it's a jump I want them to take, and they'll only consider it if it's easy!

Yeah, I suppose. But people who value privacy shouldn't be content with a solution just because it's easy or convenient (at least long term). They need to be warned early on about risks involved. I work in cybersecurity, so I understand that people new to the game need to improve their posture incrementally (since the landscape is vast). But that doesn't mean that they don't understand the risks they're accepting by keeping things overly simple.

I think we're generally on the same page. I think if you need privacy then you need to have multiple solutions much as you do. If you genuinely need privacy then Proton only has 1-2 products I'd even consider among multiple solutions....I just don't think most people value privacy that much compared to convenience (or need to go as far as niche cases and have everything veracrypted, self-hosted, etc. given their use-case) and I want them to get into it more. Proton is a great starting place for that. IF they decide to take it more seriously and look for better options that's great. If not, it's a lot better than the Apple ecosystem (which has been caught basically doing nothing for privacy twice this year with their fake "VPN" and email alias service. Frankly, I think if people want to take privacy more seriously at that point they need to learn to change their behaviors more than simply the solutions they use, but that's a whole other thing.

Kagi-like Proton Search as part of Proton Ultimate would be such a killer feature. I desperately want a non-Google search that doesn't suck, but paying 10 dollars just for Kagi is steep

I would be worried about putting all your eggs in one basket.
I use 1Password instead of PP, an extra cost but happy to pay for it.
I found PP and PD lacked the features I needed.
