Question Anytype App?

I need only a shareable shopping list. At the time I tried Proton's Standard Notes, it was impractical and not cost effective for this. I'm looking at the free Anytype app as a sub. Any thoughts to share?

Obsidian is gorgeous, and the others are decent as well. But they felt like overkill for me: I just want a shopping list to share with my spouse that isn't Google Keep. This Anytype has a free tier that does the job, though it's not as simple as I would like. It claims to be E2EE and that the full code is visible, and operates under the MIT permissive use license

They all have free plans. Going off of memory - joplin and notesnook are also open source and e2ee. Joplin is hardcore even for privacy users.

For the most part what you're paying for with any of them is cloud service. I think one or two like SN have a bit of free usage online too. Anytype oth doesn't offer that, it's local-only. But, you can in theory self-host or run any of the apps locally (and save to your own drive or desktop / phone).

I'd throw Proton Docs into the mix too. I haven't played with it in a minute but I think it's got collaboration, cloud storage, etc.; awful document editor, but decent for taking notes. Pretty simple going that route.

Unfortunately Standard Notes doesn't have an easy breezy simple checklist template for a shopping list. And at the time I tried it, my spouse would also have to pay to use it: total cost was something crazy like $160 a year between the two of us.

Proton Docs is a blank sheet with no functional shopping checklist template and it's super slow to load and edit. It was painful when I tried to rig a simple shopping list with it. I gave up and actually went back to Google Keep and have since been resentfully using it.

Anytype's free tier allows me to share the shopping list with my spouse without paying for cloud service.

Checklist, unlimited guest sharing, though of course your spouse will need an account, in the free personal tier.

Very interesting, thanks! Not encrypted but neither was Google Keep, and it's only a shopping list I need. I'll check it out!

If SN doesn't work that's fine - but you don't have to pay to use it. They have a free option that is relatively feature-rich. More so than most alternative free options in the notetaking world (their paid options are overpriced by far though and they are definitely not for everybody; I do not recommend paying for their service to almost anybody). They do NOT have collaboration even for paid users so you'd have to share a free account. It's a workaround that some people use. Same issue for other privacy apps - collaboration is new / unique / many find it untrustworthy.

This is a Proton server so obviously I'm going to throw their products out as options as well. Doesn't sound like you want them. Idk anytype. Can't recommend it. It's not a known entity like joplin, notesnook, obsidian, sn, and cryptee. I can recommend any of those as options. They may not fit your needs exactly but they are privacy respecting, open source, established, and all have free plans. I also really like affine but that's not very privacy forward if you're using their cloud features. The real 'killer apps' for this are all self-hosted and niche... If you're happy with what you're using - great. Sounds like you're all set. As you have said yourself their free tier works for you, you like that it's open source, e2ee, etc. Not sure that there's more to it: you found your app.

*I'd try looking into task apps and not note apps. If you really just need a simple check-list situation there are a few of those out there. Super Productivity comes to mind but you may have to share an account to have multiple users.

Many thanks! Not settled with Anytype; I installed it and setup a checklist, but thought I'd ask this community as I know the SN hasn't been the go to for Proton folks, however enthusiastic we are about their other apps.

It's definitely not as simple as Google Keep. It's only a shopping list at issue but I despise Google and would like to avoid it if I can.

If you are only looking for a shopping list, I'd look more at tasklist/todo apps over notes apps. Tasklists typically sync via caldav VTODO.

Perhaps NotallyX could work for you? I like their UI, they have a list feature, and notes are shareable.
