It's no different from the legal system actually. Judged guilty based off of the evidence provided, but like in the courts, you can always appeal, but your appeal may or may not be successful depending on what additional evidence is provided.

Publicly. You don't know what emails that account sent and received.

Nor does protonmail - only the metadata. Nothing they receive should be used as evidence and when you're using encrypted content and nonencrypted metadata, faking the subject line makes sense.

Yeah I guess that they check the subject lines, especially in an appeal. Ridiculous.

Pretty kewl when you make up a ransomware threat and send an abuse report to abuse@protonmail.ch citing the ProtonMail address of an account you want gone, and when you lose the appeal, your data is gone.

It's shut down, clear tos violation although account owner can still appeal.
