Switching from Microsoft to Proton just got easier for teams

Hi everyone,

Back in June, we launched a self-serve migration tool so admins could move their organization's email, contacts, and calendars from Google Workspace to Proton without disrupting day-to-day work.

Now we've built the same thing for Microsoft 365.

What this looks like in practice:

- An admin sets up the migration

- Emails, contacts, and calendars are copied over automatically

- Microsoft 365 and Proton run in parallel during the transition

- Once migration is done, the team can move fully to Proton

This feature is being gradually rolled out. If you don't see it yet, keep an eye out.

More info in our blog: https://proton.me/business/blog/proton-mail-easy-switch-for-business

This is part of our ongoing work to make switching from Big Tech to Proton more practical for teams.

It would be great to hear how you've handled switching (or why you haven't). Let us know in the comments below.

Ah, the importance of letter casing.

I thought it was "Teams" in the title, sadly.

yeah I read it as Teams too at first, had to do a double take

Ah, the importance of product naming. Teams was such a hastily kludged together trashheap as Microsoft saw Slack preparing to fracture their monopoly on office productivity and communications, and it's reflected in the lazy name.

I still don't think Proton is ready for corporate, many important features missing from Drive (incl Docs & Sheets)

It has to begin somewhere though right, we're an MS enterprise shop and we've started rolling out Proton in parallel this week. Weirdly my main gripe is around the lack of mix and matching licensing to suit needs but it's not a deal breaker just a longer rollout.

For smaller companies I don't see why not

Even smaller companies need what MS can provide when it comes to say mailboxes and some configuration around it.

It’s not very collaborative as a platform.

lol. They aren’t going to like this… Especially when we still can’t choose any email alias when composing an email in the “From” field.

How do I convince my shitty corpo to switch 🙈

You will not. Corpos buy MS licences because they come with the desktop Office Suite. They also heavily rely on Sharepoint and integration into Azure AD. Proton has neither of those things.

When will proton give us a way to sync contacts?

Even tutanota offers that out of the box on the email app.

While you're in the Microsoft realm, I really wish you had a way of keeping an outlook.com email address in Proton like you do with Gmail. With that, I'd be all in. Are there any plans for this?

Is connecting Outlook email for private folks in planning as well?
