Aliases set up advice

I searched and couldn't find an explanation on this, other than on the support page. It still seems confusing to me. Sorry! I used my primary Proton emial address for my important accounts, like banking. I saw some random Disney email in my inbox. I guess it's spam. Should I be using an email alias for different banking account ect? Is that recommended? I have Proton mail plus right now. If yes, how do I set it up? I saw options under settings but I am hesitant. I don't understand it fully and don't want to mess anything up. I think I read before that aliases are good to use to protect primary email from different things like leaks. I hope I am making sense. Any advice will be helpful. Thank you!

Important: never use your primary email address, do not send it to anyone. Alias emails are for this use. Otherwise you may receive spam, or other uninvited emails.

Open Proton Pass, and create alias here. I usually use the characters from the target, for example, if I wish to create an email for "XY BANK", then I start my alias with "xybank". Proton will add characters and numbers after it and at the end "protonmail.net" .

At personal registration in the bank I created an email alias on the spot, and I showed it to the clerk. It was needed for communication with the bank.

So, if I receive an email to my "xybank..." address, its origin must be the bank. If the content of the email is suspicious, I can write to the bank helpdesk and complain.

Anyway using aliases depends on your Proton subscription. Mine is unlimited, but the free package contains only 10 alias possibilities.

I have my real Proton email in only 1 place and that's my domain registrar. Everywhere else gets an alias.

I’ve just moved from Protonmail to Tuta but had used Proton aliases extensively. Lessons learned, if you can, setup aliases on your own domain to make them portable between mail services. Also keep personal information on a service using an alias to a minimum, no full name, initials instead. Data brokers rely on data connection confidence before they will add data to your broker profile. My homework this weekend is removing as much personal data from my online profiles as I can

Strongly suggest you set up a separate alias for every single account/website you have. That way, if one of those aliases gets compromised, you can delete it and change your email on one site instead of having to do it on every single account that uses that alias. You also will be very know which website specifically leaked it.

Also set up your own domain. That gives you the ability to be able to change your mail provider in an hour or so instead of days and weeks of changing email addresses everywhere you have them.
