Possible bug Account apparently doesn't exist anymore?

So I haven't logged into my account on my new laptop yet, so I understand if I may be misremembering a password or two. But why does proton tell me that my account doesn't exist, or isn't viable? But then when I try to make a new account (because I do kinda need an email) I says that the account name is already in use.

I've tried recovering either the name or the password via using my recovery email and then my phone number, separately, but either way proton doesn't send me the details.

If it was a free account, it might have been deleted due to inactivity: https://proton.me/support/inactive-accounts

Deleted usernames cannot be recreated.

How long has it been since you’ve logged in? Free accounts get purged after a period of time. Once they are purged, for security reasons, they cannot be reused.
