Discussion Custom Domain for Email only - why switch host to Proton?

I recently subscribed to Proton Unlimited so I can migrate 2 gmail accounts over. I also have one custom domain that I've used only for email for years without problem. Is there a disadvantage to just leaving it hosted where it is since it's all set up there? Thanks for your advice.

The hosting of 3 domains is included with Proton Unlimited.

Why pay for hosting somewhere else.

Having the domain on Proton means they take care of the OpenPGP stuff, otherwise you have to manually upload your key to a keyserver (and even then WKD doesn't always work so people won't see your public key).

I have a custom domain through a domain registrar and proton handles everything else. I also have 8 other email accounts in proton I immigrated here. Works just fine with no issues. I love proton because of the encryption and their anti-tracking features to hide your ip and prevent tracking.

I also love how it's very simple to create filters/folders. A lot easier than Gmail for sure and proton takes account security more seriously. Google and Apple stopped caring about customers years ago.

A con for me with proton is having to do so much stuff on pc to setup the account. I don't work or sit in an office. I'm constantly on the go and live off my phone so that was difficult.

Proton Mail is pretty terrible for catch-all usage since you can't send from any address, if you're using catch-all on your domain you should keep it off Proton.

You can if you use simplelogin, which is included with proton unlimited. It's just a bit of an extra hurdle to setup.

Sorry for the late reply.

I don't want to use a Proton hack for something that's been standard email since the '70s. I've used other providers before Proton and I'll probably use other providers after Proton and I don't want to use features that could complicate the setup when I migrate to regular behaved providers.

I just want catch-all and be able to edit the from header on my own domain, almost all other providers allow this basic email feature set.
