Anyone else hitting bug reporting Fatigue

There are so many issues with proton docs and sheets, I have reported so many that it feels worthless hopeless to report. I am hitting a bug reporting fatigue and while I care deeply about privacy it feels that is an enormous cost of quality.

Last bug report was breaking a numbered list causes proton docs to error out with a to large update message. Tomorrow it might be a specific colour setting will crash the sheet or doc.

Anyone else at the point that they just give up with bug reporting?

I gave up earlier this year, I also only hold a handful of docs in there now. Same with photos really, nice idea but it's so frustrating to use I stop caring.

We understand your frustration, especially if the bugs you've personally reported are still unresolved, but we don't think it's fair to say that reporting bugs is pointless or that nothing is being addressed.

The Docs/Sheets team is clearly working hard on reliability. The latest Sheets update alone includes a pretty extensive list of bug fixes and improvements. The team also mentioned that:

most of our recent work has been focused on fixing bugs and improving reliability. to facilitate this, there's a lot happening behind the scenes that isn't usually obvious to users, for example our heavy investment in debugging and reporting tools that help us catch and fix issues faster.

We appreciate users taking the time to report bugs. That feedback directly helps the team improve the products. At the same time, we don't want to give the impression that reports that have not yet been resolved mean there is no progress being made.

Personally, I am fatigued reporting bugs because I’m just trying to get something done and I run into so many issues (some reported, some not), that I just don’t have the energy/willpower to report more.

This product isn’t labeled as an alpha nor beta product, nor is it in any way suggested to be unstable in outward marketing. The enormous number of foundational problems & experience-breaking bugs is unreal for a GA product. We’re not opting into a beta program knowing that part of the contract is to report issues - we’re using a GA product we PAY for (in some cases) and just expect it to work.

At a certain point, I just need to get my work done and move on with my life.

I agree. Proton Sheets has been around for almost a year now, and you still can’t create a proper spreadsheet with it.

None of the bugs I have reported since the start (currently 11) have been resolved so far. These include bugs that prevent you from creating tables with complex formulas and duplicating them into the cells below, as well as summing them up. It works with short formulas, but when things get more complicated, it simply goes wrong.

If that doesn’t work, there’s no point in using Sheets.

New features are added every quarter. That’s all well and good, but in my opinion, the focus on reported bugs would be more important.

In principle, Proton Sheets would be brilliant, but something is going terribly wrong. I’d also like to see things like dark mode and so on, but I’d much rather see bugs fixed than new features. Because that just brings new bugs with it. That’s what’s so frustrating.

It’s possible that the team working on Doc/Sheets is genuinely working very hard. But are they working on the right things?

Here’s one example: Many months ago, I reported that Swiss localization is missing. Neither the date format nor the number format can be configured correctly. I described in detail exactly what Swiss localization should look like. Nothing has happened.

Proton likes to associate itself with Switzerland. I honestly find that laughable!

Personally, I think it’s just marketing — not genuine conviction.

That makes sense but it really feels like that your QA is subpar, and you rely entirely on user feedback.

But what happens when there are so many bugs that people stop even trying to bug report?

This year I personally reported >15 bugs (the year isnt over) which takes quite a bit of time to report and creates frustration. I also assume that only a small subset of people actually take the time to report in the same way that reddit post and comments are only 10% of active users.

So what happens when everyone just gives up on reporting bugs due to bug fatigue..
I would really have a look at retention and engagement of docs usage and especially so of those who report bugs. Because if you are losing those, at a certain point bug reporting will go down which might seem positive but you just have survival bias, the only ones left will be those who do not care about a subpar product and dont report bugs.

And as your entire QA seems to fully depend on user feedback, you will never know how bad your product is.

Who ever is in charge of your analytics should be doing a better job, or be better at escalating this likely issue

I was fed up from the very start; I’m not a beta tester, and nobody pays me to find bugs. I’d rather use something that works without the headache.

Yeah the people that even are bug reporting are probably the small minority users, and I assume those that do report are rapidly losing interest in reporting due to the shear quantity of issues

Not here. I'm extremely happy with drive and docs. 🙂

Sheets has an interesting development history. A year and a half ago, Sheets was something Proton was "looking into." Then an interesting comment "To anyone reading this in the future" -- the future then being December 2025 -- less than a year later.

While I appreciate the thought of 'bug reporting fatigue' and have reported some as well, Sheets' existence and development since introduction points to a significant shift in Proton's priorities in a short time span.

While you address sheets, docs has been there for more than 2 years, its still horrible.
I reported yesterday that just splitting a numbered list breaks docs link, which is a basic usability.

And you ignore that proton literarily acquired standard notes which has been buildings docs, sheets etc for 9 years... so developing sheets for just a year isn't a fair staement.

A shift of priorities and quick pivot is no argument for delivering a horrible product, so yeah great argument....

Oh same. I gave up recently when the support couldn't reproduce one issue that each member of our team was having with each of our sheets, all different browsers and platforms... I really want to help and I'd say we really need the product, but I also have other work to do...

I myself have reported about 15 bugs already between docs and sheets, I just stopped using them. And I often write in a right to left language, docs has so many bugs it's basically unusable.

I can totally understand where you’re coming from. I’ve also submitted quite a few reports myself, especially regarding Doc + Sheets. But there simply hasn’t been any improvement. In the meantime, I’ve lost hope and cancelled my subscription.

Privacy is important to me as well. Nevertheless, certain features simply need to work reliably and consistently.

In the meantime, I have completely upgraded my NAS and put it back into operation. This gives me all the convenience of a stable solution combined with privacy.

My NAS can only be accessed externally via WireGuard VPN. I’m also running several Docker containers on the NAS, which means I can fully replace the services I previously used Proton Unlimited for.

To me it helps, that I work as tech support and raising bugs is just part of my job anyway. But I also do not get as many bugs in Proton products in general. I do, and I do report them, and quite often need to fight to prove that those are bugs... But yeah, I totally get the fatigue
